Several friends and I pooled some money to buy a game account from an online acquaintance
(we gifted him a $60 game on steam in exchange for it). Several months later, he contacted the game's support team, claimed his account had been hacked, and took the account back. As he was the original owner and the game had been first activated under his IP address, we had no recourse. This certainly taught us about the dangers of buying game accounts.

Anyway he seems to have a history of selling game accounts, so I am posting this here to warn possible future victims.

Here is a Skype chat transcript where he essentially admits he scammed us. He claimed he never agreed to sell the account to us, and only sold us some items on the account (even though he gave us the account pw and even let us change the account email to one of our own...); then after being confronted with chatlogs of him agreeing to sell the actual account to us, he changes his story and claims that was his 'brother' using his account who was talking to us.)

At this point I couldn't handle the stupidity anymore and so stopped replying.

How do you know this person? Have you or your friends met him?

Were you buying a gaming account to cheat the site?

Nope, one of my friends just knew him from playing League of Legends. We've never met him, the only information I have on him so far is what I've posted. His Skype profile claims he lives in Portland, Oregon.

No, we weren't cheating the game, they allow multiple accounts and it's common for people to make another account and level it up so that they have additional production points (account-based crafting 'energy'). They don't disallow buying accounts either, though they do discourage it for reasons we found out first hand.

EDIT: Thank you for the link! We will keep these things in mind from now on. I suppose we felt safe because it was an acquaintance and not just some random seller, but that didn't turn out well.

In my first post I was not familiar with buying gaming accounts. Since I have googled it I now know.
