There is a new scam going on that seems very legitimate and i was very confused, trying to figure out HOW it could be a scam....
There are "jobs" posted on sites like freelancer.com, craigslist, etc. The job is usually listed as "data entry" or "ebay seller" or "ebay listing". The seller says he has products they want to hire someone to sell for them on ebay, as theyre not very familiar with how ebay works. They send you the item pics, specs, description, etc. You post their item in your ebay account. The seller claims once the auction is over, the buyer will pay YOU through paypal. YOU keep the money until the buyer receives the item (from the "seller") AND leaves you "positive feedback". They claim to be very honest and reassure you that you have nothing to worry about b/c youre not paying anything until the buyer receives their item. You would then deduct your commission, and send the remaining profit through paypal to the "seller".
Atfirst I thought maybe the scam was that the "buyer" was really the "seller" through a different account. You would hold the money until the "buyer" leaves you good feedback claiming they recieved the item. Then you send the remaining money to the "seller"... the "buyer" then want to "return" the item during the 14 day return period (which the "seller" tells you to put in posting") and want their money back...but then the "seller" is long gone with the money and youre stuck having to deal with paypal dispute.
However, the REAL scam this time, is that you post the ad. Then somehow the "seller" watches everyone who bids on the auction, and contacts them OUTSIDE of ebay claiming to be you. One sucker falls for the "pay me outside of ebay" scam, and then YOU ARE responsible for them not receiving the item and now you must pay and the "seller" is gone.
This "seller" even had the NERVE to argue with me when (thank GOD) other ebay users recognized his posting on ebay, and made me aware of it and ebay shut the listing down. He wanted to know who reported him and "couldnt believe i fell for that!"
beware!
