Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me I will like to purchase your furniture but the only way i can pay you is through a Bank Certified Check which i will mail to you using UPS overnight delivery

To make sure that everything goes smoothly i would wait for the it to clear before the pickup is done, I will be responsible for the pickup and it will be done by the movers and their payment will be included in the check i mail to you and this is all due to my disability (am deaf) and it makes it hard for me deal with this and it makes the transaction better and quicker.

I know you were not expecting this and I would have loved to come for the viewing but i cant I really want it and am offering an extra $50 for you to delete the posting to show i want it as i am just settling into my new house i want good deals to furnish the apartment i stay in.

if you are okay with this please send me extra pictures and get back to me with the following

Your Full name
Your Physical address (as UPS does not deliver to P.o.boxes)

I await your response . thank you and stay blessed

He will send you a check that is fraudulent, but good enough to initially fool the bank (or so he hopes.)

He will tell you that as soon as the check 'clears' you need to withdraw the shipping fees and forward the money to his 'shipper' via western union or some other untraceable method.

He is counting on the fact that most people assume that a check has cleared once the bank lets them withdraw the cash. In reality that is not true. Checks (even certified ones) can take weeks to clear. Banks have to issue the cash within a certain number of days if they have not yet determined the check is fraudulent. BUT - and here's the catch- they can take the money back from you when they discover the fraud (and they can go after you, calling the police and reporting YOU for fraud.)

So say your item is $400. The scammer will send you a check for much more (let's say $1000, they do pick ridiculously high numbers.) He will tell you to deposit the check, and when it clears, take out the extra $600 and send it via WU to the 'shipper' (who is a mule or accomplice.) A few days later, you see the money in your account and you send the money. A few days to weeks later you get a notice from your bank that they have taken the whole $1000 back away from you, leaving you facing an empty (possibly overdrawn) bank account, plus they are hitting you up for various penalties for the bad deposit. And when you go to track the "buyer" you will find that everything you were told--names, pictures, addresses, etc. - were fake. And nobody has showed up for the item, because all the scammer really wanted was the cash.

Welcome to Scamwarners rodneyperry23,
This is a scam and any check that you receive will be fake or stolen. Do not cash or deposit the check, either deface the check or shred it.

If you have any additional questions please ask.

It is ALWAYS a scam

Welcome to Scamwarners cocopatel,

Removing your phone number from the CL post is a good thing. Scammers like when people put their phone numbers in the ad. This way they can avoid being detected by CL as a scammer. Keep all conversations in CL message system until a buyer is willing to meet you face to face in a public place for the sell.

This way you have a way to report the scammer.

This is not an uncommon scam for West African scammers. They set up text numbers all the time. They will set up fake websites and make fake documents.

If you have any questions please ask.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.
