This is still going on. Currently trying to sell our travel trailer and this is an email I receive after the first text asking about the trailer:

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that i will not be disappointed with it. I'm ready to pay your asking price, i'm buying this for my son.I would have love to come for the viewing by the weekend, but My place is way too far from there in which i am located in yukon in canada So i thought of how to make this transaction work between us, which i came to conclusion with my husband to use a courier company to pick up the item from your place but we will send the money to your account first and after you get the money in your account, the pick up company will come to help us carry it. Since i'd not be seeing the item before i purchase it, please provide me with the address where it will be picked up so that i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me.i'll be waiting for the address where the item is so i can send it to my shipping / pick up company for the calculation of there fees and i'm sure they will get back to me soon. So about the payment i will like the payment to be made via paypal online secure payment . So i want you to get back to me with your verified PayPal Account Email Address And your full Name Please include your email address in your reply for effective contact,So that i can Deposit the funds now and if you don't have one you can get one done at http://www.paypal.com and with that i can have a good transaction.
1.The lowest you can go for the price
2.Your PayPal Full Name
3.Your Paypal E-mail address.
4. Your phone number.
5.remove the item on kijiji.
Best Regards,

Then I ask to speak over the phone and this is what I get back in reply:

Due to my present location, my choices are limited and not often available by the phone. I am an honorable woman and you will receive your money cash in hand before this is picked up. However, it's easy and free to open a paypal account. Just go to there website http://www.paypal.com and sign up a personal account there. Paypal is the world leading payment master that protects both buyer/seller interest. You are on a secured transaction with paypal. Above all, it's like instant cash. As soon as you open an account, get back to me with the name and email that you linked with your paypal account and I will have your money sent asap. And due to the nature of my job and having being a paypal customer for the past 6 year with no charge back,I feel more comfortable sending my funds via paypal due to there various security measures at ensuring safe and secured transaction between both buyer/seller. But, if you feel otherwise, I totally understand
Regards

This is the name: Melinda Williams and the email is [email protected]

I didn't seem confident and right away fooled kijiji scams and came with this thank god for sites like this. I'm not communicating with this person anymore :=)

Welcome to Scamwarners Notstupid1,

I am happy to hear that alarm bells rang and you searched for information.

Thank you for posting the information here to help warn others.

What was the text number used? This will also be helpful to others.

In this scam the scammer is NOT interested in your trailer. He wants to steal your money. No one will ever come to pick up the trailer. It is all a scam with the scammer playing all roles.

The scammer wanted to send you a fake Paypal payment. He has a fake Paypal address from a free email provider spoofing Paypal. The payment would look real. Its a screen shot of a fake payment. He then will instruct you to pay a mover, shipper or agent. The fake Paypal email from the scammer would say that your Paypal funds will be released when you send the scammer (mover, agent or shipper) money via Western Union or Money Gram. In reality Paypal would never hold your funds.

Log into Paypal directly without any links to check for monies received or call Paypal directly from the number on their site.

If you are selling electronics, Cell phones or computers then the scammer is trying to steal your "item". Your fake funds will be released when you send the scammer a scan copy of a receipt showing you mailed your item.

This same scam works with fake check and money orders. You and your bank will think they are real. After you cash the fake check. Days or weeks later your bank will inform you of the fraud. Your bank will have you repay the monies. Possibly close your account for fraud and report you to Law Enforcement.

The best thing to do is to sell in person face to face in a public place.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

omg. so I'm selling husbands bike on kijiji for a nice chunk of money and received a text then followed by an email. Red flags were going off so I googled the email address and found this post. just about fell off my chair. EXACT same email. I have never used PayPal but I'm not dumb. lol. so I traced ip address back to Seattle. now I'm wondering if they are from there or somewhere in Africa. maybe someone may know a bit more about that sort of thing. locations and what not. I also responded stated I would send info over the next day (wanting to investigate first) and I received the exact second email that you received about not having access to a phone. I did not ask to speak to the person on the phone so It is clear that is it computer generated and you are not actually communicating with a real person

traced ip address back to Seattle
.

Was it Seattle or Redmond, WA? Redmond IP's are very common, because Microsoft has a campus located there. It's not where the scammer is located--it simply means that the email was sent through Microsoft's servers (which is logical since Microsoft owns outlook.) In that case (just as in the case of an email sent through the gmail web interface) the true originating IP does not show.

now I'm wondering if they are from there or somewhere in Africa
. The writing is African--the scammer is very likely operating out of Africa or Malaysia.

I received the exact second email that you received about not having access to a phone
The scammer sends that email out to all potential victims, to cut off the phone request before you get a chance to ask. They want to avoid phone contact because the moment you hear their thick accent, you will be suspicious.
