Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hello,

I have been tried to be scammed recently. I am selling a camera in Gumtree.com, the scammer contacted me saying he wanted it as a Gift for his nephew, therefore he was in a hurry. He asked several questions about the item and finally he asked me to send him a paypal money request.

Is something I can do from now on, like to report it to the police to be researched? If I send him/her an email saying I am planning to pay and everything has been a misunderstanding, maybe he will believe it and this conversation can help the police in any how?

I mean, is there anyway I can help in order to get the scammer caught?

Regards,

David.

Scammers will use fake names and free email addresses. They often work out of internet cafes in which many of the computers will share the same IP.

If the scammer ask you to ship it to Nigeria for example our local law enforcement will not and can not cross boarders.

The best way to get back at the scammer is to post his emails, email address and text numbers here.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

Okay sounds good...am seriously interested and ready to buy it for my cousin in Malaysia as B'day Gift but am currently offshore due to the nature of my work so i'll be glad to know ur firm price before proceeding further with the purchase also would be glad to have the current pics to see the present condition. i would complete your payment via PayPal as i'll be responsible for the transaction charges and include an extra £150 to your payment for the shipment fee via DHL. i hope you will consider my offer, kindly get back to me now to know the next plan as soon as possible...

Best Regards,
Jason.

My firm price is 400 pounds.

The pictures that are in the advertise are the current pictures. Camera is perfect except for the electronic zoom. You can send someone to test it in reality, if they can come to Elephant & Castle in London.

I understand that you will pay 550 pounds vi Paypal, give me an address to send the camera with DHL to Malaysia and that the price of sending the camera will be lower than 150Pounds.

Will DHL be able to envelop the camera properly to avoid any damage in the trip
? I do not have the tools to do so. But I bet they know how to manage.

I cannot assure you that you will not be disappointed with the purchase.
I can assure you all the information is true and I am not hiding
anything bad about the camera. My advice for you is to have some one to
test in reality and to get to know if he feels the camera it is what he
needs. It is pretty good camera for the price, you can see reviews.

I am not a shop or something like that, therefore I think it is not
possible for me to write a receipt. If you are willing to have some
proof that I sold you the camera, the advertise in Gumtree and these
emails are already a proof, but I can write in some paper that I sold
you the camera if you are willing me to do so.

My email address of Paypal is Removed (BW)

You can send the money to that account.

Are you completely sure the shipment will be 150 Pounds? If it is a
bigger quantity I will tell you, and require the money to be in my
account before sending.

I will need the address to be send to.

I will send it on Saturday, before I cannot because of work.

you are pretty smart. But It does not work with me. Well played.

If you have the camera, send the payment.

Pretty sure you are not going to do it.

Good luck with the next try.

I had the same problem just a few hours ago. I posted an ad for a 2nd hand laptop on gumtree, got a text from this unknown number telling me to email jasonrobert1111(at)gmail.com [it came in like this]. The first thing I noted was, the same number had a chat history with me! The history message was a confirmation number I received for setting up a Telegram account.

But I still went about emailing this guy, called Jason Robert. The email did seem weird, but I thought it was just one of those childhood embarrassments.

Hi,

I'm the seller of the ASUS UX302LG. I got a message from gumtree telling me to contact you. Are you interested in the laptop?

I'm not sure if you've read my ad on Gumtree carefully. You should note that my laptop has been used for four months. But I give you my assurance that it has never been scratched, dropped, or damaged in possible way; all buttons, ports, cables and the touch screen are working perfectly. Also, before shipping the laptop and its accessories to you, I will make sure that the laptop is fully reset to factory settings. I have relevant pictures of my laptop's and its accessories current state on Gumtree.

However, please also know that I have had bad experiences with making overseas transactions. So, I would greatly appreciate it if you could at least tell me by when you need the laptop to be shipped, and where you are currently located.

Lastly, is there no possible way for us to do this locally?

You could see that all his replies were very fast, and he never answered my questions; he wouldn't even give me a date and location. Come on, dude. The way he asked questions also made it seemed like he had never seen my gumtree ad before. So I got suspicious, and went to see his google profile. He actually had a photo on it, complete with 888 views and 1 follower.

Thank goodness for this forum. Beware of this dude, people.

Yeh, just got a txt from this guy - then the exact same email.

I intend winding him up as much as possible.

It just seemed so sus when a txt appears with no number & he says its easier to communicate via email wtf? then he goes on about being offshore & paypal - like I am gonna fall for that crap.

Hope he gets shopped.

Don't try to wind him up; he has your real information. If you want to bait him, see http://forum.419eater.com for the necessary precautions.
