Hi all thought I have to put this up here. I have almost been a victim to a scam . The motor home was listed on gum tree and eBay and he/she even sent an invoice through PayPal ....fake as well.
The reg of the motorhome is N177GRV . The persons email is [email protected] . The only reason I have found all this is because my email account was hacked into .

What a shame this person is taking people for a ride ? Some people may not even think of it being a scam .
Going to report this to the police , eBay, and PayPal and watchdog As well.
Please don't fall into this . The person says they will deliver at their cost as they are in Scotland !!!

I too have just uncovered this same scam when doing a check for my parents it was for a Peugeot Boxer 290 Lx sleepervan REG: AU03 HNF

Telephone numbers involved 07855876583 and 07968282028 emails involved [email protected] and [email protected] I took photographs of the websites involed the same van for sale in Salford, Manchester and Northfield, Birmingham photographed from different angles to look different but same red car in backround these websites were then taken down just before they started to correspond luckily I saved them. Also have the gumtree add saved on tablet which also no longer available

Said payment to be made through google or paypal would deliver from scotland free due to being there for work commitments.

Checked the Registration online and it checks out fine not altered or stolen or hp so I think the police should investigate as they would appear to be using a genuine vehicle at their premesis.

Regards Chris.

Welcome to Scamwarners Quantumpcph.

If you look at the threads above this one you'll see one listing the fraudulent adverts on Autotrader UK and each day I pick up an average of something like 100 fraudulent adverts, sometimes more, including between 5 and 8 hacked dealer accounts, but I concentrate only on cars because I don't have time to cover more.

I can understand your reaction but even if you're a victim and lose money you will barely get the police to raise an eyebrow. The scammers' tactics vary but are well known. The photos are simply taken from other ad sites and I can usually track them down.

If you pay these criminals your money is lost and gone for ever as they use 'money mules' or have accounts set up specially to launder stolen funds. The situation is a disgrace and I've even been in contact with an Australian victim who has lost money. It used to be said that the UK had the most stringent money laundering legislation in the world, but now the UK is the centre for the laundering of criminal funds. Our regulations may be the same. They just aren't implemented in a manner that is effective.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

This scam is still going on. I noticed an advert on ebay yesterday for a Peugeot Boxer Motorhome and was told to email the seller direct as it was a classified ad. I did this and within hours the listing had been taken down so I didnt think any more of it. I then received this email:

Hello,
The motorhome is is still for sale in excellent condition, with no damages or any faults. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £4,600 delivered at my costs.
The deal will go through eBay and PayPal.
Thank you
Alice

I then did a search on google using the email address [email protected] and found these warnings.

I think that there is yet another listing on ebay for a different Motorhome, but obviously same scammer. I tried to contact ebay to tell them but just cant find a way to do this.

And now I have just received this email:

Currently in Dundee, Scotland I am offering free delivery. Due to my location and since view is not an option I will agree for a 5-7 days of full inspection period ( after the date you receive the motorhome ). This means that you have 7 days to inspect the motorhome for any damages and decide if you want to keep it or not!
Because I will sign eBay's return policy, your money will be insured by them and you will have the option to reject the deal, only if we go through PayPal as well. If this is the case, you will receive a full refund (money back) from PayPal and I will have to take the motorhome back on my cost!
You can read more about it following the link below:

Let me know if the above return policy is acceptable and if you want to purchase the motorhome please confirm your PayPal email for further instructions.

Welcome to Scamwarners mummycaz and it's good to hear that you haven't lost money to the scammer. Many people have.

There is a gang that post fraudulent adverts on all major ad sites all round the world. I specialise in spotting ones on Autotrader UK and I know someone who looks at ebay adverts but Gumtree is absolutely swamped with scams. Autotrader UK usually have 100 and sometimes more fraudulent adverts a day, and I concentrate only on cars as you can see from my posts. As well as fraudulent adverts the scammers also phish and take over dealer accounts, which I presume is what they do on ebay.

I wouldn't get too worked up about reporting them as I've known a fraudulent advert to be posted three times in one day after being deleted, and these criminals don't lack resources and the ability to post these adverts in high volumes.

This is why I post details to enable potential victims to pick up warnings if they make a simple Google search, and I try to educate people through the forum that they should never pay for anything from an online ad site that they haven't viewed and inspected first.

Here we are 3/7/13 and alice is still hard at work! This time a motorhome advertised as for sale in New Milton Hampshire but she is selling it from her work place in Dundee, Scotland!

Her last e mail ignores my offer to come and inspect the vehicle in Scotland.

She is using [email protected] and [email protected] .uk

Please spread the word if it sounds too good to be true it probably is....a £30K campervan for £11K!!

Hi Alice,

Are you a dealer as I noticed you are linked with the sale of a 1993 motorhome in June? I'm guessing you want to do all this through E Bay with me paying up and then you arranging delivery? I have tried to call you but your phone number in the add doesn't work.

I'm in Scotland this weekend so perhaps I can come and see it?

Hi
I am a mug. Fecking scammed big style by Alice. £4180 worth. Took me forever to work and save this money. Just wish i seen this before. Motorhome Scam. Keep well away. He/She is good and fooled someone who is quite into Security and Computers. Obviously not as careful as i should have been.
Just 8 Hours ago money gone.
I hope sometime in my life i get the chance to meet this person.
Now trying bank and Police.
I have managed to find a link in some of the e mails that shows an address of a foreign guy in London. Maybe false.
But will be visiting the house to ask anyway.
The world is full of fecking scum bags.

These scum are still at it on ebay!
I sent a message to the seller of a VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER T5 CAMPER VAN MOTORHOME 2011 #251581599078 then I receive a text message yesterday, 8 july 2014, saying if still interested I should email them at [email protected]. Thinking this was odd i put btmpro.co.uk in a google search & the first thing to pop up was scamwarners....
I would never have sent any money without seeing the vehicle but for some reason my ebay message to them included my mobile & landline number, should I be concerned?

Welcome to Scamwarners gottaflychris.

You may get some scam attempts by phone but even that is probably unlikely as this group is usually pretty focused on picking up cash and passing on to the next victim. They work to a set template and just drop you if you don't pay up quickly.

I contact them a lot 'buying vehicles' and they've only ever contacted me once by phone. I suspect that those working the scam don't speak very good English but they ask for a phone number as a means to verify that you're serious.
