Watch out for [email protected], he just tried this on me.

Got a text from (402) 925-4252:
"Id like to buy the car you listed on autotrader, email me at [email protected] if you still have it . PS email only. James"

Emailed him, and this was the response:

Thanks for response, It's really appreciated. I'm glad about the condition of the car and I'm interested in purchasing it. could you please reconfirm the firm/asking price because i wouldn't want you to have it sold to another person and also it's my son's favorite and I'm buying it for him as a gift after he's graduation. I'm purchasing without his consent because i want it to be as a surprise package for him. All necessary things that needed to be handle will be taken care of so you shouldn't have any problem with that.

Do you have a PayPal account? Have you ever received funds through PayPal before? I will appreciate if you could set up an account with PayPal so i can make the transfer into your account immediately i receive the details from you. All you need to do is to visit http://www.paypal.com to set up an account and email me your PayPal email address which you use to register as that's your PayPal account. Once i receive this from you, I will be able to make arrangement for the payment and get it across to you. I've been using PayPal for years and also know how it works and operates. My bank account is being attached to my PayPal account and once i made the payment, It will be deducted from my account immediately and you will be notify by PayPal that funds has been sent and transferred.

I will be waiting to hear from you in regards to the details so i can make arrangement for the payment and get it across to you. I will be more than happy if you could disclose the car sold and remove the listing with that i will have it in mind that you really want to sell the car to me. Please do get back to me as soon as possible. My regards to your family.

Regards,
James.

I forwarded this to [email protected] and they confirmed it was a phishing scam.

Welcome to Scamwarners easyjteasy,

This is not a phishing scam. In this scam the scammer is trying to steal your money. He has no intentions in wanting the vehicle.

He wants to send you a fake Paypal payment from a spoofed Paypal email address. The spoofed email will look real. The scammer himself will play all roles. After the fake Paypal payment the scammer will tell you that he made an overpayment. He will want you to send money to the shipper, agent or mover (himself) via Western Union or Money Gram. The fake Paypal email will tell you to send proof that you have wired some money before your funds are released from Paypal. This is all a lie. Paypal will not hold your funds. No one will ever come to pick up the vehicle.

Sell you car locally, face to face with cash.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.
