Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hello, I have almost been scammed today. I've recently been contacted by someone that goes by the name of "Elisebeth Rodrigues" ([email protected]). "She" is responding to an online ad I have about a piece of furniture I want to sell at "www.olx.pt" (a portuguese website for buying stuff directly from the seller and vice-versa). She seemed to be very interested in it and wanted to buy it from far away, without seeing it.

We agreed on a price and she sent me this e-mail today that looks like an official paypal mail. She basically said she had paid me in advance (price+shipping), but the payment was pending. I now had to transfer the shipping costs to the transport company out of my pocket, to "unlock" the payment, via Western Union, and be able to retrieve the cash.

I was already suspicious before, but when I saw that the adress of the transport company was Nigerian, I suddenly remembered the Nigerian 419 scam. I checked the history of my Paypal account and there were no pending payments.

Can you confirm this is a scam and advise me on how to proceed? The scammers already know my Paypal email address (which is also my personal address), my phone number, and the address where the furniture is situated (which belongs to a member of my family), so it is probably not a good idea to "troll" around with these guys.

MAIL:

Welcome to Scamwarners Mother Teresa

It is 100% scam. You have nothing to worry about with your email address and the location of the furniture.

In this scam the scammer is NOT interested in your furniture. He wants to steal your money. No one will ever come to pick up the furniture. It is all a scam with the scammer playing all roles. The scammer is using a free email address and a fake name.

The scammer sent you a fake Paypal payment. He has a fake Paypal address from a free email provider. The payment would look real. Its a screen shot of a fake payment. He then will instruct you to pay a mover, shipper or agent. The fake Paypal email from the scammer would say that your Paypal funds will be released when you send the scammer (mover, agent or shipper) money via Western Union or Money Gram. In reality Paypal would never hold your funds.

Log into Paypal directly without any links to check for monies received or call Paypal directly from the number on their site.

If you are selling electronics, Cell phones or computers then the scammer is trying to steal your "item". Your fake funds will be released when you send the scammer a scan copy of a receipt showing you mailed your item.

This same scam works with fake check and money orders. You and your bank will think they are real. After you cash the fake check. Days or weeks later your bank will inform you of the fraud. Your bank will have you repay the monies. Possibly close your account for fraud and report you to Law Enforcement.

The best thing to do is to sell in person face to face in a public place.

Ok, thanks. By the way, I've just been contacted by another one of these guys. Same first contact, but for a different item I have for sale. This time, I have generated a fake temporary mail and told him I would sell it for 419 dollars. Maybe he got the message, because he didn't respond.

This new guy (maybe the same one, who knows) goes by the name of "longleggedv" and the contact mail is "[email protected]"

Same here. I've almost been scammed by [email protected]

It was very odd that he's not even haggling about the price. Everything was okay with him. His last email has a very good english. I was surprised that his style in typing a sentence has changed as well. And then I googled his email address and I saw it here for confirmation.

Good thing I didn't ship the item. He told me he already paid me. But according to my Paypal, it's still pending.

Hey! Same as mine at this moment [email protected] is trying to scam me, he said that he is interested in buying my iphone he didn't even haggle for the price and he told me that i can include the shipping fee as request for payment he even sent me 2 emails containing that i will be arrested by the FBI if I don't ship the item within the max. Of 48 hours it was sent last june 9 and i just read the email last june 13 after my vacation, I also visited the FBI website and it says that they do not send emails to the mass, and also paypal just emailed me that the email I forwarded to them is FAKE. What should I do now?

Welcome to Scamwarners Renz corpus,

It is 100% scam. Just ignore the scammer and he will eventually go away. The scammer sent you a fake paypal payment using a spoofed email address. He is also the one that sent you the fake FBI email. He may even send you an email from a lawyer. It is all to make you send your "item".

Do not reply to any of his messages. He is programmed to write to each and every message he gets. As long as you correspond with him he thinks there is a chance to steal from you.

Sell your items face to face accepting cash only.

Yeah he even said that I will be arrested by the FBI if I don't ship the item but I had a second thought because when I visited the website of the FBI they said they don't send emails to mass and I received it TWICE!!! same time and date that's how I start to be confused and fortunately I checked my email and paypal respond to my questions correctly that they don't send me emails with such things meaning FAKE!

[email protected]

BTW he is not sending me emails anymore after I confronted him about this matter, that I asked paypal if the email I received was really from fbi. So I guess its true that he is a scammer. I also received another email from [email protected] telling that he is interested with my item and I found out that he had same address with this [email protected]
