Hi, every one.

I try to sell my car at local free website. This guy is willing to buy and pay me by paypal. I havenot have a paypal account and set up one for this. Then I received the confirmation e-mail from paypal as following.

You have received a PayPal Payment of £3,250.00 GBP from *******

A temporary hold has been placed on this transaction!

As mentioned in the receipt of Payment and as per New PayPal Payment policy, we have fully debited the total amount (above) from the buyer's account which includes the buyer's shipper's pick up fees.

In order to complete this transaction and get the funds approved in your account. We advice you go to nearest Western Union Office, and send the £550.00 GBP to the shipping agent and send us a Scanned Copy/Photograph of your Western Union Transaction Receipt (in .JPG Format).

NOTE: This is important as a security measure to ensure safety of this transaction.

Please, find below the name and address of the Transport Agent where the Funds would be sent via Western Union Money Transfer.

Hello leyon, and welcome to ScamWarners.

Yes, that is a scam. The email supposedly from PayPal in fake. The same 112 Moarville Road address has been used in another scam, here:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7285

You may also like to have a look at this:

viewtopic.php?f=6&p=20776

This scam is pretending to use the same Transport Company, and also gives you further examples of emails from scammers pretending to be interested in buying cars, and their fake PayPal emails.

I'm glad that you were suspicious about this.

Hi there - just wanted to thank you for the info in this forum - saved us some pain so I thought I'd let you know about our experience.

We had a bike listed on ebay for sale and we had an enquiry from a buyer based in the UK wanting to buy immediately for a family member. We sussed out the comments for this ebay buyer and all seemed good.

The buyer wanted us to communicate with them through their own email address. They offered us much more than we wanted as a minimum price for the item and they wanted to pay through PayPal. They asked for us to remove the item from ebay and generate an invoice through our PayPal account. We got an email that looked like it was from PayPal saying that there was a "pending" payment of $3100 to be paid into our account once we passed on the extra amount of $2100 for "shipping costs" to be paid through Western Union to the shipping company UAB "Kuršiu Linija" which we had to pay before the transfer of their funds into our PayPal account would be completed. We contacted PayPal to verify this and also sussed out UAB "Kuršiu Linija" on google and came across the scamwarners reference to a scam that in every way mimicked what had happened to us. We got an email back from Ebay saying it was a phishing scam - and we immediately cancelled the PayPal invoice and contacted the buyer saying we were very disappointed and that if they wanted the item they could buy it through ebay as we had re-listed it, they'd wasted our time but thanks for the education.

Thank you for contacting PayPal, my name is Yhanie and I am happy to
assist you today.
Mx xxxxxx, please be advised that PayPal will never ask you to send
the tracking number of a posted item before receiving a payment into
your PayPal account. Based on the information you have provided, I can
say that you are being scammed.
I checked your account and I was not able to see any pending payments to
be credited to your account even if you supply us with a tracking

you received from the person without modifying it to [email protected]

^Welcome.

I'm glad you got suspicious and did some research and found out you were being scammed. Luckily no harm done. And you did right by reporting the phishing attempt. With these postings of scams, it seems that using paypall is risky, but when dealing with genuine people it isn't. Just be aware of scammers that want to buy your item in a hurry and want to pay more then you're asking. If you're in doubt, go to the paypall website and get in touch with the people there.

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.

PayPal

Dear Removed,

PayPal would like to inform you that funds have been deducted from our client's Mickey Mcfarlin account but can only be credited into your PayPal account once the shipment tracking number has been sent to our database administrator for verification at [email protected]

This action is not a request from our client but a security measure we are taking to ensure and protect both parties involved in this transaction.

We would want you to have the item mailed as requested and email us with the shipment tracking number so that we can verify it so that your account can be credited.

PayPal is sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused you.

PayPal International.

Cheers,

Albert

Thank you for posting this Albert!

As Paypal themselves made clear, they do not have any process by which they hold money pending shipping confirmation (or anything else for that matter). Paypal transactions are instant--if someone pays you by paypal the money is immediately transferred from their account to yours.

In addition, all paypal emails come from addresses that end with @paypal.com Accountant.com email addresses are free email addresses from mail.com. And of course, genuine paypal emails don't have such lousy grammar!

Totally agree, this post about the car sell was a confirmation for me that something was definately wrong.

The problem is for most people, if a scammer offers the asking price, is keen to pay and receive the item, red mist comes down and most sellers will get the item dispatched. The old addage, show me the money, still applies as much as ever, even with a lot of good allegedly safe money transfer systems around these days.

I had this [email protected] email me as a reply on Gumtree.com, wanting me to send the instruments I was selling to him in Essex, and he would send me an extra £50 to do it. I looked the email address up online and this came up, so luckily I said no!

I have just completed the payment for the (Car) and you should have received a confirmation email from paypal in regards to the payment. If you could please re-send me the address to where i will send the courier company to pick up the ( Car ) so that i can provide them with it.

As you may have noticed I have made an additional payment on top of all the other charges, the sum of €1,600. This needs to be sent to the courier company which can easily be done through Western Union Money Transfer. This is their requested form of payment when it comes to dealing with international exchanges.Upon receiving the payment they will arrange to pick up the (Car) within the next 48 hours. They will probably call you and choose the date the pick up will be made,Which reminds me if you could also send me your contact number again i will forward it on to them so they can arrange a convenient pick up time.

The payment will have to be sent in cash which you will need to do, however as you see you will be reimbursed as soon as the funds will clear through paypal.

The amount that I have just transferred to you is on hold through paypal as they need the Western Union receipt to confirm the courier company has been paid. Once they received that then the payment will be cleared into your paypal account. Just to reassure you that he amount has already left my account and simply being held by Paypal until the transaction is completed successfully.
