Welcome to Scamwarners Shibz.

It is certainly a scam.

Ebay buyer protection only covers vehicles under very specific circumstances and this is frequently used by scammers to make buyers feel safe to pay money without ever seeing any vehicle.

No reputable company ever receives payment through the personal accounts of its employees. The account either belongs to a 'money mule' or a scammer.

You are very sensible and fortunate to have checked because once you have paid the money you will never get it back.

Read what ebay says here if you want to know the detail

Vehicle Purchase Protection

Important security reminders:
Vehicle Purchase Protection is only offered on transactions that are completed on eBay.
eBay discourages the use of offline transactions, including payments made via Moneygram or Western Union. These types of payments are often associated with fraudulent transactions.

Transactions that take place on eBay can be confirmed by seeing the item listed in the "Purchase History" section on your My eBay summary page.

Overview of the Vehicle Purchase Protection program

The eBay Motors Vehicle Purchase Protection (VPP) program provides protection of up to $50,000 against certain losses associated with some types of fraud. You are automatically enrolled in the program at no charge when you complete the purchase of an eligible vehicle on the eBay Motors site (motors.ebay.com).

Please understand that the VPP program is not an insurance policy, a solution for buyer's remorse, or a substitute for buyer diligence (i.e. pre-purchase research and inspection). Therefore, we encourage you to perform appropriate research and exercise proper care and judgment in the purchase of any vehicle.

There is more to the rules and requirements to qualify for Buyer Protection but it's clear that your transaction already doesn't qualify, but the second you handle the transaction off ebay, which is what the scammer is getting you to do, you are not covered,

Example E
Please be aware that the "easy steps" included in fraudulent emails often contain false information. For example, eBay never acts as an intermediary for buyers and sellers during the payment process. Suggestions that a seller will notify eBay regarding the payment process or that eBay might act as an agent or escrow service are inaccurate. eBay does provide Vehicle Purchase Protection for vehicles purchased on the eBay site and appear in the "Won" section of My eBay, but the program does not guarantee any transactions, especially if they occur outside of eBay.

You cannot make a payment to eBay by paying money to a private individual, but the payment process under eBay Vehicle Protection does not require payment to them anyway. A scammer wants you to pay them money for photos they have copied from the internet.
