I was just sent a txt message through craigslist add, saying they wanted to by my merchandise and was going to pay me more then what I was asking through paypal. They sent me an e-mail saying that payment was sent to my paypal acct and deducted from there paypal acct .Name & Address they gave me to send it to : abiodun olanrewaju, (No.14 his grace close agbowo u.i). City: ( lbadan) , State: ( Oyo) Country: (NG) zip-code +23402...and they asked for my email & id of my paypal acct. Don't fall for it it is a scam I logged into my paypal acct and there was no payment received so I called them and they said it was a scam. NEVER SEND YOUR MERCHANDISE TO ANYONE WITHOUT CALLING AND CONFIRNING IT WITH PAYPAL First. Don't just go by the email it is a fake. I am going to try and copy & paste the email so everyone can see it.

Thank you for posting the details.

The scammer sent you fake Paypal payment. He has a fake Paypal address from a free email provider. The payment would look real. Its a screen shot of a fake payment. Depending on what you were selling he would either try to steal your money or property. If it was a vehicle or large item, he would pretend to make an overpayment. He then will instruct you to pay a mover, shipper or agent. The fake Paypal email from the scammer would say that your Paypal funds will be released when you send the scammer (mover, agent or shipper) money via Western Union or Money Gram. In reality Paypal would never hold your funds.

Log into Paypal directly without any links to check for monies received or call Paypal directly from the number on their site.

If you are selling electronics, Cell phones or computers then the scammer is trying to steal your "item". Your fake funds will be released when you send the scammer a scan copy of a receipt showing you mailed your item.

This same scam works with fake check and money orders. You and your bank will think they are real. After you cash the fake check. Days or weeks later your bank will inform you of the fraud. Your bank will have you repay the monies. Possibly close your account for fraud and report you to Law Enforcement.

The best thing to do is to sell in person face to face in a public place.

Good work to catch them! In the rare event paypal hold funds you can ALWAYS Login or call and see them in your account and why they are held and you can always pay postage out of them and mess around looking at it even if its not all spendable.

^^^I am only aware of Paypal holding funds of a seller in one situation.

That situation would be a new Ebay seller. The seller can still check there Paypal Account and verify funds are pending. The funds will be released in three situations.

Paypal will not hold the funds of a Craigslist seller nor request proof of mailing.

I got the same problem. she offered me way more than asking price. I, as a new user of paypal, assumed they were real emails. I sent out the item and then called PayPal. I found out there was no money in account and was furious. I am taking her to court. I will show them this website. She will not get away with this!! It was a $500.00 item!!

I had this same problem about 8 months ago and am so glad I found someone who it has also happened to. I sent my iphone and payment was never recieved. I was furious. Doubt I will ever get the phone back. WORST. MISTAKE. EVER. Not sure any previous action can be done, but if anyone has advice for me I would greatly appreciate it.
