Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Looks like a similar scammer is still at it...
Strangely, his email also says Scott... but it is not Scott Gordon.

BTW- I am selling a musical instrument on Kijiji for close to $2000.00. Unless money is pissing through their ears, any experienced musician will want to try before to buy... It's not like buying toothpaste.
Before I found your site, I did email him back asking for when he will be back in town... No reply yet but this was like an hour ago only. However, the fact he was buying blind like that was a ref flag for me. Based only on the short email he sent me below and the emails I read above, it looks like that this is a one of the 'starting emails' the scammer uses... In any case, I will cut the communications right then and there and wait for a real buyer that can show up. Great job for the site and Tx to the previous posters as well.

From OP:
Scammer's email: [email protected]

In this scam the scammer is NOT interested in your instrument. He wants to steal your money. No one will ever come to pick up the instrument. It is all a scam with the scammer playing all roles. The scammer is using a free email address and a fake name.

The scammer wanted to send you a fake Paypal payment. He has a fake Paypal address from a free email provider. The payment would look real. Its a screen shot of a fake payment. He then will instruct you to pay a mover, shipper or agent. The fake Paypal email from the scammer would say that your Paypal funds will be released when you send the scammer (mover, agent or shipper) money via Western Union or Money Gram. In reality Paypal would never hold your funds.

Log into Paypal directly without any links to check for monies received or call Paypal directly from the number on their site.

If you are selling electronics, Cell phones or computers then the scammer is trying to steal your "item". Your fake funds will be released when you send the scammer a scan copy of a receipt showing you mailed your item.

This same scam works with fake check and money orders. You and your bank will think they are real. After you cash the fake check. Days or weeks later your bank will inform you of the fraud. Your bank will have you repay the monies. Possibly close your account for fraud and report you to Law Enforcement.

The best thing to do is to sell in person face to face in a public place.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Same, this person is attempting to scam me as well. First came under
[email protected]

Now changed to [email protected]

They are using Kijiji.

Okay.. I will be paying the 2.9% PayPal surcharge from my account.
So i will be paying directly into your PayPal account without any delay, and i hope you have a paypal account.
If you have one already, just send me the address to send it to, which is the email address you use for it or you can send me a paypal money request,
so once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment through PayPal and then i will contact my shipping company after you get the payment.
I will need your home address for the merchandise to be Picked Up by the Shipping Company..

Be warned.

What do you think, a scam?
by Dotti Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:55 am
There is no question about it. It is a total scam. Only in the scammer's completely bizarre imaginary world does Paypal work this way.

-If you receive a payment via paypal, you can log into paypal (do NOT follow a link sent by email) and you can see the balance in your account.
-Paypal does NOT hold money pending proof of shipping or payment to a shipper.
-Paypal is a money transfer business that makes money from fees. Western Union and Moneygram are competing businesses that also make money from fees. Paypal will NOT send you to a competing business and lose the fee money.
-If paypal funds are put on hold (which is not common but may happen if you are new to paypal, there is a question about the sender's account, or if there is a dispute) you will still be able to log in and see the balance in your account. You just won't be able to withdraw the money yet.

On a separate note, numbers starting with 4470 are NOT UK landlines. They are redirect numbers that can be forwarded to phones anywhere in the world. They are most often used by scammers who are pretending to be in UK when they are not.

Please post the email addresses used by the fake buyer and the fake paypal, including the address that pops up if you try to reply to the fake paypal email address.

I'm in the midst of talking with this guy over email right NOW.

He emailed me first using the email [email protected], responding to my ad for an $1100 drum kit I posted on Kijiji Ontario asking if it was still for sale.
I said yes and he responded via [email protected]. NOTE THAT THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE EMAIL IN THE SUBJECT! HE SWITCHED "STEVENS" AND "SCOTT" IN THE EMAIL.

So he says:
Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or
repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed
price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal
surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up
for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment.
I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available)
too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal
email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

And when I responded saying that I don't have a PayPal account, that he could just email money transfer to my email (along with assurances of the quality/completeness of my product), I got a Delivery Status Notification Failure from Gmail saying that his account had been terminated. So I resent my email to the first email he had been using ([email protected]) once I noticed the change in email; I also sent one saying "Hey just want to confirm if you've been emailing me from [email protected]?".

His response:
"yes,i just got hack with that email..i have to use my another email." from the scott stevens account.
Then:
"I can only pay with paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online and i don't have internet banking
more over i can't go to the bank due to the nature of my job, but i can pay from my paypal account,
has i have my bank a/c attached to it,
i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the item and
pls if you don't have paypal account yet,
it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration
with paypal so as to put the money through "

BEWARE. This guy's too much hassle and CLEARLY a serial scammer. I'm going to email him back to let him down about the kit but will not be notifying him that I know he's a scammer, in case he changes his email or something such that people cannot recognize it to be one from a scammer.
by NavyDrummer Fri Jan 17, 2014 1:14 pm
I just got the same scam email from this guy. He obviously doesn't know who the REAL Scott Stevens is and that most Canadians do in fact know who he is. Why would you pick the name of a famous Canadian hockey player as your scam name? I think that's really funny. :)

I am replying to his email right now, I will also let him off the hook so he continues to use his email addresses.

His first contact with me was with this address: [email protected]

He then replied with his standard first email response, the same as in the posts above, with this email address:
[email protected]
