Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi,

I replied to a Friday Ads advert for a Abbey Spectrum 545 2007 model with TRUMA motor mover,2900£... Newton Abbot on 30/11/13, I had the reply below:

Hi, I was away to my mother in law and I just got to a pc and saw your email. This van has a full service history and all documentation is present including CRIS, all registered in my name I did the change of name just a few weeks ago. It has been stored in undercover storage from new so the exterior is perfect. My husband died 2 months ago and I was left with it and an unpaid mortgage that is due next week. The final price is not negotiable: £2900. If you agree I can send you the link to my private auction on eBay so you can buy it from there since I all ready had a buyer last week who came up with some fake notes. I don`t really trust someone else to come around my house. Please note that you will be able to check directly on ebay the registration and all the information about it including a HPI check, they have checked and saw that there's no finance or other problems with it. In this sale I will include all the accessories that we have it it. eg. gas bottle, water tank, new awning that we didn`t even unpacked £300 value and a lot more.As soon as you will confirm the payment to eBay, I will proceed with the delivery without any additional costs for you. You will receive the van with all the documents. As you know eBay is the best company of online transactions. If indeed you are interested in buying it and have the funds, I will list it on eBay, as I have a 100% positive feedback with them.

Please let me know your decision.

Thank you

I sent an e-mail back saying:

Thank you for your reply, I am sorry for your loss. My husband and I would want to come and view it first, with the amount of money to pay I would not buy from ebay without viewing, I too have a 100% positive feedback on ebay but as a buyer and not a seller.

Please advise if this would be possible to view over the weekend.

I then googled the caravan to see how much they go for, the prices where coming out in excess of 9k, so I thought I would look on ebay, couldn't find anything, I then thought this was suspicious and googled her name and e-mail address ([email protected]), this led me to this site, I thought it was fishy due to the context of the e-mail, fortunately I would not part with that amount of money without seeing it first. Whilst writing this I have just had a reply (I have read the comments on here and it seems this is the next e-mail you receive):

As I said earlier with that fake buyer and those notes I`m not really prepared to allow anyone else come near my house Here is how the process works through the money back guarantee program works.
I'm going to list it as a private auction on ebay and then send you the link, you will need to click on buy it now and just follow the instructions sent to you by ebay. As soon as they will confirm that to me I am going to start the delivery through shiply.com as ebay has instructed me. Once you receive it you have two options. Option 1: You will tell ebay I received it and its in perfect order the transactions is a success and I get my money, or option two but I don`t think you will use this one, you will contact ebay and tell them you can`t keep it. They will refund you the money and thats it. end of the deal.
Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received it. I just need your ebay id so I can send you the link through ebay.
Let me know if this is acceptable. Thank you

Through this site I have been saved from this scammer, many thanks,

Welcome to Scamwarners deigan25.

The domain - momapps.co.uk - is only used by scammers, though he uses many others. If a seller won't let you view and inspect the item for sale then you shouldn't buy it, and the person is an idiot, or more likely a scammer, if they believed they could sell anything without ever being viewed.

Deceased husbands, unpaid mortgages and playing the frightened female is a psychological tool played to make you feel sympathy and drop your guard. Being part of a large criminal gang they have no qualms about leaving their victims penniless and badly upset.

Any report of where they're operating and what they're offering for sale is valuable, as well as copies of their current scripts and mail addresses.

We don't hear too many good stories, and if it was because you were alerted by Scamwarners, so much the better.

Don't give them any more personal information about yourself but if you get the current bank account details they're using we can report it and, if they set up a spoof ebay page or send a spoofed 'Google wallet' message we can get it shut down. It won't stop them, as they set these up with ease, but it slows them down.

I'm severely cramping their style on autotrader UK :D but we know they operate on most major ad sites. I'll get working on those as I learn how they operate.

... and just as I say that

PRIVATE SALE!!PLEASE DON'T CALL! CONTACT THE OWNER AT: [email protected] FOR MORE INFO !!!

Back to work. They never learn.
