Hi

Since posting a discovery for sale on Auto trader I have been contacted by leads that appear genuine but they all either work abroad or on a oil rig, and cannot view the car themselves etc etc. Below is the e-mail thread requesting payment details (pay pal accounts).

I have gone through the advertisement and am satisfied with it. As soon as i receive the payment details from you, I will proceed with the payment immediately.

Regards,
Ross.

Are you not on leave from your rig any time soon then? I would prefer to take payment in cash if at all possible?

Thanks

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the message, I have attached some pictures to this e-mail and will also attach some more to following 3 e-mails for your information.
Thank you for your interest, When are you next on leave from the rig as we may be able to wait until then if you wanted to view the discovery before paying for it? Alternatively if you wanted a friend or colleague to view it for you, they could collect on the same day if paying cash? Please let me know what you want to do next.

Many Thanks

I await to hear from you soon.

HI Ross,

Thanks for your message, my discovery is still available. I think that £3500
is a fair price for what you are getting. The disco has done 151000 miles
but I have replaced most of the major components in the last 16 months, it
has been well looked after and needs for nothing. It come complete with the
rear seats and fitted rear belts, so will convert to a 5 seater easily, it
has the land rover load liner fitted and comes complete with the land rover
floor to roof bulkhead with fittings.

If you would like to view it, it is at
Please let me know when works best for you and I will do my best to be
available. (I am not a trader so would need to arrange time in my diary).

However if you think that you have lots of information feel free to make me
a offer!

Best Regards

Hi there, I too have been contacted by a Ross Thorley in response to me advertising my Winnebago on Autotrader
looked like genuine buyer until I asked where he was offshore & offered to take our Winnebago over if he had bought it (mini Holiday) although there was someone ahead of him interested which fell through so then I tried to call him, the number was unavailable then popped the number into an internet search engine and came up with this website; would be interested in anyone else's experiences with this guy

It's a long shot scam that'll waste your time.

The scammer is sending the same message out to hundreds of advertisers a day. The idea is that he is somewhere inaccessible and will have to arrange for a company to collect the goods. He'll send you a 'spoofed' Paypal message for more than you ask and then request that you pay his imaginary collection agent by Western Union. That's what he's after.

It's the scammer version of doing the lottery.

It's very annoying but, if you think about it, people don't wait until they're out at sea or on an oil rig before they purchase a car. He won't even speak to you by phone as his accent will be a dead giveaway and you won't understand Nigerian Pidgin English.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

Hi I a selling a motorhome on Autotrader and have got the same set of scam Emails, he is now Steve Martin at the same Email address and the mail is the same word for word, including the spelling mistakes and the same "cos I am going on holiday, I am on the rig" line!!.

My daughter has checked him out and it seems he has done this a few times, he gets the vehicle and then claims the money back from PayPal.

I am sorry to say that he will not be holidaying in my van, in the near future!

Regards

Bob

No he doesn't. He has no interest in the vehicle and as he is likely overseas would not be able to do anything with it anyway. As TerranceBoyce has said in an earlier post, he will send you a fake PayPal email saying that you have been paid and that the payment includes the shipping fee and will ask you to send the shipping money by Western Union to his shipper. You will never receive a payment and no one will collect the vehicle.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Following my earlier posting about the Email I got similar one from a women who wants to but it unseen for her cousin, she also can not come to see it, this time due to illness. She also wants to pay by PayPal. Her Email is : [email protected].

This one is not on a rig, so I have offered to take it to her, so we will see what happens from now on. I will keep you posted.

Is there any no-scammers who want to buy a motorhome?

Regards
