Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi Received this via text message number 8222 on the 17th November 2013.

"Hi, is your vehicle still for sale? Kindly get back with your final price to [email protected] . My name is Bruce, thanks and email only please.

I replied with Hi, $4000 ono final price cheers and got.....

"Thanks for the mail...I am ready to buy it now for my better half
however due to the nature of my work, phone calls and business
websites are restricted but i managed to check few adverts and sent
out messages regarding them. I would be glad to secure this and pay
for it as soon as possible even though i will not be available to come
for inspection or do cash on delivery due to my my deployment plus our
Major being a psycho LOL (Well he should be, there are so many nutcase
in the military world). Kindly get back to me with answers to the
following questions;

1) What is the condition and why are you selling?
2) Are you the Owner?
3) Pick up Location address for me to forward it to the pick up agent
for them to schedule time and the date for the pick up?
4) Your Registered PayPal Name and Registered PayPal Email Address for
me to proceed with the payment?

I would be glad to make the payment immediately through PayPal so
kindly get back to me with your registered PayPal name and registered
PayPal email address for me to proceed with the payment because I am
unable to mail a cheque or money order (sorry about that). You need
not to worry yourself about the shipping, I have a contact with one
standard shipping company which I will inform to come over for pickup
once I have paid you in full. The shippers can meet you at any place
of your choice for the collection in case you do not want to give out
your home address (Just saying though cos some people have trust
issues). Should in case you do not have an account with PayPal, you
can always open one (it is easy, fast. very secure and it should only
take 3 minutes to create an account on the PayPal website) or you can
just supply your bank information. I can make the payment directly
from my PayPal account to your bank account without you having to open
a PayPal account. Therefore in order to complete the transaction, you
just need to get back to me with your Registered PayPal Name and
Registered PayPal Email Address or bank info and total cost so that I
can make the payment asap. I will be waiting for your reply

Thanks and apologies about the long mail. Please you have to delete
the advert from the public if you agree to sell to me just for my
confidence.

Kind regards,
Bruce

I replied..

Hi Bruce

This is not the first time I have been attempted to scammed. No one buys a car without viewing it and I'll take cash or bank deposit only within New Zealand.

Thanks for the attempt in wasting my time but I will continue listing this for REAL buyers looking for a good deal.

Good luck with your next scam victim but as all this correspondence will be listed online with a warning to people I find it hard to believe you will be successful again.

Listing all this as a warning!! Take care online :)

I have been hit with this scam as well :(

Being too trustworthy i accepted his reasoning.

When i was asked to pay $3750 dollars in shipping fees before his payment would be released, thats when the penny dropped.

Feeling a bit duped

I just got this one too! Same exact wording.

As soon as I got the text I thought it looked scammy, but the idea of a quick sale made me email them against my better judgement!

Using the word "kindly" is a huge tip off to me. And NO ONE in NZ will buy sight unseen without an inspection/phone call/test drive (or their brother's ex-flatmate went to uni with someone who lives close enough etc).

Heaps of links to it tho...

I have just had this email today, and I was just wondering whether anyone's email accounts were compromised due to it? Seems to be a bit of strange activity going on, on our business account.

I've also had this scam attempted, he seems to be using the same blurb when contacting people about their cars - a google search showed me this!

Starts with a txt from 8222:
"Hi, is your car still available for sale? Kindly get back with your final price to [email protected]. My name is Bruce, thanks and email only please."

Offered to arrange viewing for the car, and received this email reply:

When I replied saying cash or bank deposit only, and car would be released once payment cleared, he replied with the following:

I called him out after this (after some research) and sent a short sharp reply!
