Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I am advertising as a tutor on Craigslist and received an email asking me to reply to [email protected] (Pietsch Tamesha) about tutoring two children while he/she was out of town. The English was really bad but I just assumed they were new to the country which was what I was told in the email. He/she seemed very keen to proceed but I assumed he/she just wanted to get it sorted out as soon as possible. He/she said payment would be made by check so asked for my address name and phone number. Like an idiot I gave that information. I was worried straight afterwards and have now received the standard scamming email that a check for extra money is on its way to me and I should deposit it etc etc.

I feel very stupid that I gave my information away. Offering tutoring or similar services is always on trust but I have learnt to only reply via craigslist and not give out information unnecessarily. I will be blocking the email and hoping for no more....

Be careful of similar scams if you are offering services.

I wouldn't worry too much. I think its a money scam rather than an identity scam and if they don't have your bank details you will be fine. I received the check which I showed to the bank when I was in there. They told me that it is a real check but if it bounces (which it will) then I will be charged $10 and my account will be marked as receiving counterfeit checks.
All in all just learn a lesson and rip up the check I think. Be sure to report the scam emails to Craigslist too.

I have received more scam emails since but no phone calls or other mail yet so hopefully that's the end of it....
