I think I may have luckily escaped a very elaborate scam however others have not. I answered an ad on gumtree by a guy offering a £70 payment for using an eBay account with positive feedback. I at first was very concerned but answered the ad out of curiosity. The person claimed he was a legitimate businessman who has been selling campervans for some years but has chosen to take the eBay route but wanted to test the water first to see whether it will be easier. He offered to show me proof of his business but I foolishly said there wasn't a need. I listed the campervan for him at a price of £5500 but after a number of days and a lot of interest I received an email from eBay stating that they had removed the listing due to a copyright infringement. I obviously at this stage decided not to have anymore dealings with the guy and told him I didn't wish to deal with the item any longer. He was angry at this and obviously didn't pay me. I then received a worried message from a member a number of days later as they had paid for the van outside of eBay and not received any delivery info. I contacted eBay immediately who stated that if the transaction was made outside of the site it will have nothing to do with me. I explained the situation to the member who was understandably very annoyed. As I did not repost the listing and was not aware of the payment does this mean I have escaped unscathed? I believe the member has contacted the police but thus far I have had no further communication from anyone although it has only been a few days. Please lend me some advice on this.
