I have a person that I found on Carsonlinefree.com that is selling a 2012 Hyundai Sonata (vin 5NPEC4AB0CH131330 ) for $10,000. The price is extremely low, and I feel there is a catch to this deal. The only thing that has me slightly believing this can be legit is that he wants to do a cash on delivery type of deal where the car is drop off at my house and that's when I pay for it.
The posting says the car is located in Illinois and he gave a long description about the car and how there's minor scratches on it and the windshield should be replace (will deduct cost to replace from the price).
Here's his first email:
Then after my response noting that I am in Georgia and no longer in the Illinois area he says:
Now that he mentions he's in Portugal it has scam all over it. I'm guessing if I talk to him on the phone that he will require me to pay the shipping, which is the extreme catch of how he will get his money. This is something I absolutely won't do. Do you guys think this will be a safe transfer if I literally don't pay anything until the car is delivered to my home (including shipping)? What sort of questions should I ask about the title? Shouldn't it be registered in the United States already? What if the scam is that I pay for a car in cash that cannot be register? If that's the case maybe the safest bet would be to have the car delivered by the DMV, and I can have my wife go register it while I wait with the trucker? And I'm not even sure why a person would feel safe with some trucker delivering back $10,000 in cash when their only job requirement is to drop off vehicles...not to mention delivering back $10,000 in cash to a person who lives in Portugal.
Anyone seen this kind of scam or have thoughts on how I should proceed?

I still have Hyundai Sonata for sale and the price is correct ! The car is in perfect working state. Very clean inside and outside, never been smoked in and has been garage kept, no accidents. It has all the necessary documents (clean title in hand, original bill of sale, user's manual, insurance etc). The title is clear.

Due to the high volume of internet scams, i will send the car to your home address COD ( CASH ON DELIVERY ) so in this way this will be a safe transaction for both of us. As you probably noticed, the price is rather low, the reason I selling the car at this price is because i have to pay 12000 usd for registration here in Portugal. The car is here in my garage in Portugal. I can drive the car here, the insurance is still available until next month. When insurance expire, i can't drive it, so i have to register the car here. I can't spend 12000 usd for registration so i have to sell it. Now, I can't come to USA to sell the car because I'll spend money and lose more time, my only chance to sell this car is to find a buyer in the U.S. or another country. I can send the car to your home, transport will take approximately 10 working days, after you receive the car you will have another two days to inspect it. When the inspection period ends, the transport company will contact you and if there are any issues with the car. If all is good, I'm sure it will be, you will be able to transfer your name in the title to your local DMV.
I give you the chance to receive the car at your home address BEFORE i receive my money for it.
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND WE WILL TALK ALL DETAILS.
