Hello
I put my ute on gumtree last night and a short while later I received an interested sms-(0428465117) asking to correspond via email to :
[email protected] about the condition of the car etc. I replied and here's the email I got back:

Thank you for the mail,i am okay with the condition Likewise your asking price is quite reasonable and affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll have it for the listed price, please kindly send me your BANK details or pay pal payment email and name to set up purchase,as i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here on our mine site but i have my ANZ bank account linked up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account
i will arrange for pick up and delivery by my freight agent after the cleared payment to your account.
Many Thanks
I told 'her' that i'd be willing to lower the price to x$ and she said she would pay the listed amount ... that made me suspicious along with the involved payment method...
I'm pretty sure its a scam. any help ?
Thanks

Common scam. Don't do it. You will get a fake message from Paypay saying the scammer has paid for your car and the shipping, but you can't have the money until you send your own money to the shipper, by Moneygram or Western Union.

Don't. He's not trying to buy your car.

Deal only with local people.

Hello and welcome to Scamwarners onion.

100% scam I can tell by the writing and the script used. The scammer wants to send you a fake email from Paypal stating that Payment has been made. Actually no payment has been made and the email is not from Paypal. The scammer wants to steal your money.

Also be aware of scammers wanting to send you fake checks and Money Orders.

Sell your vehicle face to face with cash at a public place.

This scammer has already been posted here see:

In chess terms, it's know as the West African gambit

i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here on our mine site but i have my ANZ bank account linked up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account
i will arrange for pick up and delivery by my freight agent after the cleared payment to your account.

The essential components being

i don't have access to my bank account....... I will be paying you through PayPal....... i will arrange for pick up and delivery by my freight agent after the cleared payment to your account.

The scammer always dictates how payment will be made (or the scam won't work).

He can't pay by bank transfer (in this case because he's permanently buried underground :=) )

He is going to arrange for the item to be picked up (irrelevant information to you as you presumed someone would collect it and don't care who).

These are the things that alert you to it being a scam from the start. The scammer holds back the obvious stuff until later and by then - you're hooked.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle
