Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hello,

Only a coupe hours after posting my car on craigslist, I receive a text from a 256 area code. I live in Ohio... However, so far everything seems to be okay. But, at the same time the fact they are wanting a 1999 Honda CR-V 4WD from OH just seems sketchy.

The woman's name is Katie, says her "boss" has approved her of making the purchase. Originally said she is handling shipping, only discussed once. She has asked for more additional photos. We have not talked on the phone, YET, because it was just a few hours ago and even i didn't want to talk on the phone being so late. Anwyays, I have asked her to call me when she gets the chance and if its possible to have the delivery company to deliver the money to me when they arrive. I have not heard back from her, because I literally jsut emailed her the pics and asked.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Think it's most likely a scam or is it still "if-y" to most?

Thanks for the help guys!!!

It has all the makings of an overpayment scam.

There is no reason someone would pay to ship a 1999 car across the country, if it's not a collector's item or something very special. Shipping would probably cost as much as the car!

But, scammers do this all the time.
-They respond to an ad, claiming they are covering shipping.
-Next step is to get your mailing address or paypal address. Since you mentioned paypal, I am assuming they will go that way instead of the fraudulent check route.
-They will follow up with a fake paypal email. The email will state that payment has been made for the cost of the car plus shipping. It will say that the payment is on hold pending payment of the shipper, and will be released once you have paid the shipper
-You will be instructed to send money to the "shipper" most likely via paypal or moneygram (which, by the way is absurd, as paypal is not going to send you directly to their competition.)
-If you send the money, you will soon discover that no money has been transferred to your account, and you just sent your own money via an untraceable service to a total stranger.

Nobody will ever come for the car, because all they wanted was the cash.
