I put an item in Hawaii's Craiglist, with my contact #, and promptly received a text message asking if it was still for sale... I confirmed it was, and this person informed me that he would like to purchase via Paypal and make arrangements with his shipping company to pick it up. He also asked me to remove my Craigslist add so that he knew I was selling to him... I did not comply because I was suspicious.
I provided my email address, then received an email from a "shipping company" stating the buyer's name as Eric Sensing, and qouted a $500.00 shipping fee for Eric. I looked at the long header of the email, checked the IP, and it was sent from an Apple product in Cupertino California.
I'm sure it's a scam at this point, but wanted to see the fake Paypal letter so that I would have proof of criminal activity so that I could report them, so I confirmed I received the shipping email, but asked the buyer to move the correspondence to email vice text (so that I would have records of the transaction)
I started getting emails from [email protected], which also geolocated to an Apple device in Cupertino, California (surprise surprise), and he started to explain how he was having difficulties getting the shipping payment to the shipping company due to some disability, and asked if I could sent $500 to the company, plus $100 Western Union fees, that Eric claimed he would include in his Paypal payment that I would receive promptly. The name and address for the Western Union payment was provided as:
Name:Monica J. Sharp,
Address: 26100 Redlands Blvd #163
City:Redlands
State:CA
Zip Code:92373
Country:United States
The problem we encountered was that I was not receiving any Paypal confirmation emails to my Icloud email address... this email service must filter these emails I'm assuming, so I was unable to confirm receipt.... Eric then claimed that he contacted Paypal and was informed by Paypal that my SMTP server was under construction and I would need to provide an alternate address... I provided another address and promptly received the fake Paypal payment confirmations, so I can now forward this to Paypal's fraud reporting addy
as well as file an internet crime report.
