Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I posted an ad on craigslist to sell an item. I received an email early this morning from a 'James scott' - email address '[email protected]' that simply stated -

'STILL AVAILABLE 4 SALE?'

I responded that yes it was and the price was negotiable.

A couple hours later I received another email from a 'John William' - email address '[email protected]' that stated -

'Hello

My assistant told me that you still have the item 4 sale,I will pay
your asking price. I will likely make payment by check or money order
as its the only way I can pay you at the moment (I am actually out of
the States on a business trip). I will make arrangement for pick-up
after payment has been received by you. I dont mind adding a little
extra thirty ($30) dollars so you can keep it in my favor.you should
get your payment in 4-6 working days, Please keep it in my favor.
Kindly reply with your full name, cell phone number, and address where
payment should be sent,i will appreciate if you can get the ad off
craigslist so i can be sure you are keeping it in my favor .Awaiting
your reply. Best regards'

This seemed a bit hard to believe because he never actually asked about or mentioned the actual item in any way, and he wants to pay me full price PLUS 30$ ?? I don't think so ! Upon googling these names, they both come up with a list of scam/fraud complaints pertaining to them and emails identical to the one I received. They apparently send you a check for the wrong amount and then ask for the money back and ask you to cash the check and send them the money. Beware of these 2 email addresses !!

Welcome to ScamWarners van780. Yes, that is exactly what they do. Send a forged check, tell you to keep the overpayment for your trouble and send the rest of the money to them by Western Union. The problem is the only real money comes from you and your bank.

Eventually it gets discovered that the check was a forgery and the bank and police come after you to make things right.

Thank you for posting this. :)
