Welcome rentux,
yeah this is the classic car sale scam but slightly unusual to be using google wallet, maybe paypal and ebay are on to this lad.

Any person who by any false pretence, and with intent to defraud, obtains from any other person anything capable of being stolen, or induces any other person to deliver to any person anything capable of being stolen, is guilty of a felony.

Hi,

Thanks so much for posting this! I have had the same scammer trying to sell VW Transporter Sportline, exactly the same story as below and using Google Wallet. I thought it was just too suspicious.

Hi

This is a scam, but you should realise they are not using Google Wallet, they are putting up fake Google Wallet sites. I just checked one, and the domain was only put up 3 days ago, so it looks like they get someone on the hook, then throw up a new website on a subdomain to make it look like a Google TLDm when it is not. The Contact button would send the message to THEM, the scammer, not Google.

I have just had a problem buying a Lexus 400h on Autotrader,

The price asked for a 2009 version was very low. I queried the price and got this reply - in part.

From a Mr Earl Garside. btw the vehicle concerned is registered in his name as I did a Reg search, however

it did seem too good to be true.

"Hello again,

Due to the fact that i am located outside UK and we can not deal in person,i`ve contacted Google Wallet regarding this issue and they told me that they could offer to me a program that is created especially for international transactions that protects both of us. They agreed to supervise this deal.
You will send the funds to Google Wallet and they will keep the money until you receive the vehicle and test it.In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their service is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that Google Wallet is in possession of the funds during the delivery period.
You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home( i will ship it to your address insured for full value to you ).
If you decide to keep the car, then you will have to authorize Google Wallet to release the funds to me, and the transaction is complete. If the vehicle is not as described ( perfect interior, exterior, mechanical condition ), you will be able to send the vehicle back through the same shipping company ( return postage at my expense ), and ask Google Wallet to return the money to you.

If you want to check the car here are the reg details #:

# Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM) MX09YJT
# VIN (chassis number) JTJBC11A002003690

Thank You!!

I then found Sam Warners had posted similar items.

I sent Mr Garside a mail.

The last post I got was this.....

"Hi,
I can't believe that you are calling me a thief.Who do you think I am ?I just can't believe this.I am an honest person, with a loving family that means the world to me.If you even think that I am after your money I don't want to sell you my car anymore.I would rather close this deal with other person than to know that you'll be very stressed hoping that I am a honest person, until you receive your car.Your peace of mind is a lot more important than this deal!!! I didn't ask you to send me the money,I wanted you to to send the money to Google Wallet and they will hold the money. They are the best guarantee that you get anywhere.Your money will be safe.
Thank you for your time and interest.Whatever you decide I wish you good luck.

The scam falls down because the Google wallet is only for use in purchases made from merchants.

If he's a merchant, he's lying to you to start with.

Where can I use the Google Wallet app?
Currently, you can use Google Wallet in-store anywhere contactless payments are accepted, at over 200,000 merchants across the United States.

The fact it isn't used outside the USA is a bit of a drawback too, but don't tell the idiot scammer.

It works in a store only - not online at all or by e-mail. This turkey of a scam won't fly, or even get off the ground.

Also, once you pay your money's gone. They don't operate any facility to delay or recall funds.

It follows a general scam framework scammers try to operate with other payment systems, but this one is just plain stupid.

Presumably the scammer will try to hoodwink you with all sorts of spoofed e-mails, but don't bother wasting your time. Just ignore this idiot and don't tell him why.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle
by EriMcG Sun Feb 10, 2013 10:14 am
When it's too good to be true it generally is too good to be true. Saw an advert for a 2012 A1 with just over 5000 miles on the clock on autotrader yesterday. The seller only accepted contact by email [email protected]. At just over £6.5K the car was an absolute steal! Should have smelt the rat at that stage.

I asked for papers and a contact number but the seller wasn't forthcoming. The emails are nearly identical to the ones above:

Hi,

The fastest way to communicate for the moment is via email because I am in a business trip out of country in Marocco and I don't have roaming activated on my mobile. I will be back on Friday next week. Also please understand that i have over 4 prospective buyers. They all say that they are ready to buy it.They all want to talk to me over the phone. Please understand that talking to every one of them would mean for me to do nothing all day but speaking over the phone and i have work , i have family to look after.I did this mistake once and gave everyone my number and lots of buyers were just calling to tell me that they are only curious about the car or if i offer finance, if i accept deals or just doing it for fun.

And also i think you already know that time is money and i have no time to waste. Once we have a deal and after seeing that you are serious i promise that we will talk over the phone.I can explain everything by e-mail and once we reach an agreement i will have no problem calling you or providing you with my number.Until then i wish you all the best and please reply as soon as possible with your decision.

Best regards,

Kim

Hello there,

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2012 AUDI A1 1.6 TDI Sport 3dr Diesel Hatchback!I want to inform you that, after all the offers we received last days i decided to sell this car for 6,450 GBP (the price includes shipping to UK and insurance fees).Although I am registered in the UK,i recently moved to Portimao, Portugal (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in UK due to the fact that it's an UK version (right handed),it meets all UK standards.I bought this car from UK and It still has UK registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets all United Kingdom guidelines so there will be no problem regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, No finance. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in your name.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days.he price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in Portugal is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle and nobody wants to buy it here in Portugal.Instead of keeping it in garage (during this economical crisis), I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK for a really attractive price.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the deal will be manage by a well known company,in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks all for the help and post regarding this scam. I almost fell for it but not until I did a few extra check, this board being one of them.

'Mr. J Henderson Grant" <[email protected]>

I have received about 10 emails in total now hoping that this clown would mess up in some way. I have just received my 'Google Wallet' invoice from the scammer!

I have drafted an email which I am about to send him. Shortly after I will be contacting DVLA and the Metropolitan police. I did an 'ip address' check on his email and found that he is actually situated in London, not Portugal.

I will post again and let you know the reply .... if any!

I have had a shocking experience with some con man/women!! On Autotrader and ebay.

This is how it went with the Autotrader advert (through emails) below:

What is the reason for selling?

Hi again Kim,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
I will talk to my husband when he rings me tonight (he's away right now).
Once I have an answer from him I will get back to you.

Kim,

Can you please send me the photos of the car so I can show my husband?

Thank you!

I found out about scamwarners and sent the email below:

Don't ever contact me again!!

I will report you if you even try to contact me!

How dare you try and take my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kim - [email protected]
Did not email me again!

That above was to do with the Autotrader ad they used and this is how it went with Ebay:

Hi there,

I just wondered if the car has ISO fix?

And where is the location?

Regards,
Me

Hi there,

The 2012 AUDI A1 SPORTS 1.4 TFSI S is still available for £9650. Yes, it has ISO fix. The car is in excellent condition, garage kept, HPI clear, has no technical issues, no scratches or dents and no hidden defects. It's a non smoking vehicle. The mileage is real(2900 miles) and I never had any problems with the engine. The car looks and drives just perfect. It comes with paid Road Tax ( valid till 11/2013). I have all the original papers including full service history. The car is still under Audi warranty.

Please let me know if you are interested in buying.

Best Wishes,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for getting back to me.
Could you please let me know your postcode and how you feel about delivery options?

Regards,
Me

HI,

This is the postcode SO53 1LH. I must tell you that right now I'm out of the country with my business but I don't think this will be a problem, we will use eBay`s protection program for our safety.

I intend to use the security provided by eBay, because they have a great exchange program.
The transaction will be fully under eBay surveillance, giving us both security and insurance that nothing will go wrong. Do you think a 7 days inspection period will suffice? Within this time frame you have to decide if you purchase it or not.

Please let me know if this works for you so I can reply with further details.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

I will speak to my husband who is working away at the moment and get back to you. He should be in touch tomorrow, so I will let you know.

I really hope I get this car!

Kind regards,
Me

Hi Robert,

Have you sold the car?

Hi,

The car is still for sale.

Rob

Hi Rob,

I just wondered why it's not on ebay anymore and how come you're selling it cheap?

Hi,

The ad expired. We will move to Spain soon and we need a left hand car there.

Rob

Shall I put the money into Google wallet for you then?

I hope this guy doesn't get any money from anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
