Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.
by Justin Sat May 19, 2012 12:03 am
This is a scammer using fake paypal emails to steal from sellers on Craigslist.

Good to hear back from you. I'm okay with the price and the condition.
Presently, i am out of town with my UNICEF TEAM to raise funds for the
Children Living with Malaria and i won't be able to come for the
inspection due to the nature of my work. Moreover, I would have loved
to call but our satellite server has been down in recent days which
restricts our calls. I will be paying you through PayPal as it is the
only Medium at which i can send Payment at the Moment.
I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too
since i won't be be able to see this in person. And if you don't have a
PayPal account, It's pretty easy to set up a PayPal account at
http://www.paypal.com  . it's just a few minutes away from signing up. it's
safe and secure for
both Parties and i have been using PayPal to buy and sell for years
now without problems. Pls get back to me with your PayPal email so i
can proceed with the payment and contact the Pick up Agent who will
come for the Pick up of the item.
I will need these following details so i can proceed with the payment right away

1:Your PayPal e-Mail Address
2: Home Address

As soon as you get back to me with your PayPal email, I'll proceed
with full Payment. I look forward to reading from you soon.

Hello,

My name is Mike, and I came across this thread while googling an email address. I googled the following email address, because I had suspicions about the offer. (craigslist) [email protected]. And sure enough, I found this thread, displaying the EXACT dialogue I was sent by this supposed "Kimberly Jones". I Just wanted to say thanks to whomever posted this thread, and scamwarners.com. I also wanted others to know of other email addresses this person is using. I sincerely hope this person gets what's coming to them.

BEWARE of the following email addresses:

[email protected]
[email protected]

I responded to the initial offer respectfully, voicing my concerns. For your entertainment I have pasted the conversation below.

I am eager to sell this bike, and I certainly don't want to insult you. However as the internet is a dangerous place full of scammers, I feel it is my due diligence to address a couple of concerns with your response. I commend your charitable work, but because you are out of town the urgency of your offer is a little confusing. Also another point of concern I have is the reply from two different email addresses. Lastly your response is rather vague: you state that you are ok with the price and condition but fail to mention any sort of details about the item in question. I hope that your interest is sincere, and I also hope that you understand my caution. I've been burned online before. A lesson well learned, unfortunately the hard way. Please respond any way that you can to assure me this is not a scam.

Respectfully,

-Mike.

I too get these scam jerks sending me their crazy stories. I am sooooo sick of them. The question i have is....How are they able to steal from me if I open a paypal account? Anybody know how they do it?
by Justin Wed Aug 01, 2012 7:10 pm
Hello ihatespam,

The scammers just ask you for a PayPal email address so they can send you fake PayPal emails claiming they sent you money for the item and shipping. They then ask you to send money to the "shipper" through Western Union. That is what the scammer is after they are not stealing directly from your PayPal account.

I am just wondering how does this scam work?
by Dotti Sun Dec 16, 2012 12:27 am
The scammer plans to send you fake emails, supposedly from Paypal. The emails will say that a payment has been made, but the money is on hold until you ship the item (or pay the shipper.) Of course this is not true--Paypal does not hold money or get in the middle of transactions like this.

If the scammer is after your item (often the case with small electronics or jewelry) the scammer will most likely send a paypal email for around the price of the item (he might make it a little higher, as "incentive" for taking the ad down. You will be told that you have to send a tracking number in order to have the payment released.

If the scammer is not after the item (which is true in most other cases) he will "pay" a lot more than the amount and say the extra is for shipping. He will refer you to his (fake) "shipper." Conveniently, the shipper will only be able to accept money via wire transfer. You will be told that your payment will be released once you have paid the shipper. In reality, of course, the scammer will collect the cash, and nobody will ever show up for the item, because the scammer was never after it.

In both cases, after you send the item or the cash, no money will appear in your paypal account, because none was ever sent.

Hi,
They have you send a money order before "funds are released"

by Bubbles Tue Feb 26, 2013 3:07 am
Actually Lmahon, the scammers spoof an email message indicating that the funds have been received. They also add fees this way too.

Anything a scammer will send you is forged.
