Here is the email I received:

Michelle Barburoe <[email protected]> Fri, May 11, 2012 at 10:25 AM

Hello ,
Thanks for the response and i want you to know that i am very ok with the price and the description. Also, i would like you to know that i am getting this for my family in Las Vegas and being an engineer currently on a rig offshore i wont be able to come for the viewing but i have a shipping agent who will do that on my behalf. Right now where i am, I can only pay you with pay-pal and i will be more than happy if my offer is granted. I will need you to give me your pay-pal email address if my offer is granted by you so i can make the payments as soon as i can and please if you don't have pay-pal account yet, Kindly set it up because it very secure and safe to use. To set it up,go to http://www.paypal.com and get it set up , after you must have done that, I will only need the e-mail address you use for the registration so as to put the money through. Also i have a pick up agent which i use in picking up stuff and i will be assigning him to come for the check up of the pet. He will be coming for the pick up as soon as i have made the payments, I would have loved to talk to you on phone but being a petroleum engineer I work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to bad weather and can only text and can only communicate with our base for now but i would love to text you or have someone call you regarding this and i want you to be rest assured that your pet is going to a good home to my family and will be well taken care of.
I will be looking forward to read from you and be glad if my offer is granted.
Regards

Hello Indian Summer,

What you have received is a Scam Script. The scam will have you send a Paypal Invoice to the Scammer he in return will send you fake Paypal notifications of payment made. He will will have some very good and believable screenshots of Paypal. Yet, they are fake. The only way to prove a payment was sent is to log into Paypal directly not through any links sent. Better yet, call PayPal once again not through any links.

The scam is that the scammer wants your item, over payment or send monies to a shipper by way of Western Union.

The script would say that you have to provide MTCN number / Tracking number in order for your money to be released. That is untrue with Paypal.

Thanks for posting. Please post the header of the email.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

Hi I have been receiving emails all day about selling my car from this one guy called Bill Ellis, thanks to ur site I was able to confirm my suspicions that it is a scam! I am including his email address to warn others

[email protected]

This is my response to him "Hi yes it is, obviously we want to get as much as we can for the car as we have a new car ordered and it has to go to that but we are willing to negotiate although we have dropped the Price by £500 already from the original advertised price. We might take a little bit less but for your own benefit I recommend that you come and view the car and see what you think of it and you can bid us for it then if it's what you are looking for"

And his to me
Hi,thanks for your response. I would have love to do that but i won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work as am a petroleum engineer and am on a rig offshore. Am buying it for my holiday cos I'll be coming soon from our rig. I have gone through the advertisement and am satisfied with it. I want you to come down by few pounds and then tell me the last price you want to sell it to me,as am really ready to buy it. I await your immediate reply.
Then he said

Thanks for your mail. I would have love to speak with him or you in person but our satellite server has been down here which restrict our calls, just using our base to send mails, please bear with me. Just tell me the lowest price you want it to go for, as am really interested in the immediate purchase of it. Awaits your  response.

And again
Hello,
Thanks for the reply,I am pleased with your price and i want you to get back to me with more pictures of the (interior, engine and the exterior) of this vehicle (if available) as i won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work. As for the payment..i can only pay via the fastest and secure way to pay online (PayPal) here, pls get back to me with your PayPal details and in case you don't have, you can also get back to me with your bank details so i can proceed with payment and contact the courier agent that will come to pick it up and deliver it in my place, and With the issue of my details, transferring the name of ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the courier services company agent so you don't have to worry about that.  I await to hear from you soon.

At this stage I was thinking too good to be true and then went on to ask him detailed questions to which there has been no reply and then I googled it all and found this site. Thanks to others for posting as it helped to confirm my suspicions!!!

As soon as any of them mention a "shipping agent" I tell them that I will save them time... to just send all the money to that "agent" and they can bring me cash when they come to pick up. I do not hear anything after that. :D

Could you post the headers of the message supposedly from PayPal? If it came from accountant.com, it did not come from PayPal, but one can spoof the From: header in an email, and you have to look at the headers to tell where it really came from.

I have just had Greg Hanks try the same scam on me. I have posted his emails for all to see.
This is an inquiry regarding the item "Beautiful Dining Room Set" you posted on DiscoverMoosejaw.com Classifieds:

From: Greg ([email protected])

Message:
I got your ad from the site and I am interested in purchasing your item. what is the final price and is it firm? Paypal is my method of payment. get back to me with the current state of the item.

Thanks for your prompt response and I am okay with the asking price of $200 but I can only make payment through paypal. I am presently working offshore and I am buying the set for my niece in the US,I insisted on PayPal because I don't have access to my bank account online as I don't have internet banking, but I can pay from my PayPal account,as I have my bank a/c attached to it. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks for your honesty and consideration towards this transaction. I will be having movers coming for the pick up of the set from your location if that is okay with you. I will need your contact number and the pick up address so I can get it forwarded to the shipper and they will get in touch with you to schedule pick up date. I will need you to send me an invoice through Paypal so I can go ahead and make the payment to you.

I am having problem paying the pick up agent that is coming for pick up of the set from you because they were only requiring their charges through Money Gram transfer which can be found at Moneymart,Western union or post office around you and I am unable to do that here, I want to include their fee along with the item cost price and make the crediting to your paypal account so you can be able to take the pickup agent fee and send it to them through Money Gram. Can you help me with this please so I can go ahead and make the payment to you now. They are charging me $450 for the shipping,$200 for your set and $50 for the Money Gram charges. So I will be depositing total of $700 to your paypal account. Is this okay with you?

I have just made the payment to your paypal email ( removed for safety measures) and Paypal emailed me confirming this please check your Paypal email address inbox, junk or spam folder for the Paypal confirmation email,Paypal said that they would be holding the money I sent because of the excess payment that I made which was the money for the shippers, I will need you to help me send the $450 for pick up to the shippers so they can be able to book a pick up time with you in time and Paypal will put the money through as well , as I am sure you wont let the Dinning room set be picked up until the money goes into your account and you are credited with $700 so please do send the $450 through Money Gram money transfer,I added $50 to cover the money gram charges to send the $450 making a total of $700 that I sent. after you have sent the money please get back to me as soon as possible with the Money Gram details, the Ref number which you will be given by money gram after you have sent the money as well as the sender's name and address so I can forward it back for your money to be put through or you can email it to Paypal directly, thats alright as well. Here is shipper's info that you will need to send the money to through Money Gram money transfer :

Paul Maxville
HC 477 BOX 654
Pittsburgh MO 65724

Hoping to hear from you soon.
