Possible Ebay / Paypal scam - help needed.

Hi, first post!

Selling a monitor on ebay i was contacted by a buyer in Hungary, asking if id ship there - no problem i thought, but after reading a few threads im not too sure now!

Ive copied and pasted the ebay conversation as below...

I’m quite seriously considering to buy this monitor but before I would begin to bid two questions. Are you willing to sell and send outside the UK (I am in the EU, Hungary, Budapest).
Does this model come with a euroscart connection?
As for the shipping since I would pay all in advance you would take no extra risk by selling to a foreigner. All I would need is an estimate on shipping costs to Hungary (via mail and courier) (according to my calculations it should be somewhere in the 80-150 GBP range )

That sure sounds like a scam to me. Why would he want to pay an extra £100 for shipping? it's not as if he's wanting to buy a rare object that wouldn't be available in his country. Have you tried googling his email address or name?

You say that the ebay member only has a feedback of 3 and has only been a member since mid February 2011? This definitely sounds like a scam and I would advise you not to deal with him.

The monitor for sale is quite specialized and is priced low, that i think is what attracted him to the item.

Ive googled his username and theres a few pages on computer forums, looking at his ebay history it fits in as he has purchased computer parts

What way other than paypal could he pay so i can avoid the paypal scam?

Could he mail you a certified cheque or a money order?

Turned out not to be a scam after all!

Guy send funds by bank transfer and i sent off the monitor - happy days.
