Received following earlier, pretty sure it is a scam...

from Jim Downey <[email protected]>
to xxxxxxx
subject Top loading washer and tumble dryer - $350

How are you doing today? I am interested in buying the advertised item
on craigslist, do get back to me if it is stil available and do let me
know your last acceptable price.

Jim

Hello,

The washer and dryer are both still available. I would accept $300 as long as you are able to pick up on the required weekend.
-----------------------------------------

I am so delighted that it is still available. I am pleased with the
current situation of the item as provided at Craigslist. Please do
withdraw the advert from Craigslist as I don't mind adding $50 for you
to do that, so I can be rest assured that the item is held for me.
I just got married and will be leaving for Hawaii with my wife in
the next couple of days for our honey moon , I will only be able to
pay via certified check and I wouldn't know if that is acceptable by
you, if you concur with me on my mode of payment kindly provide me
with the following information;

* Full name
* Residential Address ( Not P. O Box)
* Your Zip code.
Thanks for your anticipated prompt response.

I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of a mover. My Mover
will be coming over for the pick-up once the Certified Check has been
cashed so you don't have to worry yourself about the shipping.

(Gave a genuine only half truth reply - one bank a/c is closed ;) I am sure I won't hear from him again...)

Sorry, as we are leaving the country we've now closed our bank accounts so it's cash only and I won't remove the ad until you have viewed the items and I receive a cash deposit, to ensure there are no misunderstandings and to ensure the items are to your satisfaction.
-----------------------------------------------------

Anything I can do about this &*%$£! to stop him trying it on with other people?

Eventually it would have been: "The cheque will be for more than the item. Please send me some of the difference back after cashing the cheque". No one will show up for the items and your bank will eventually cancel the cheque by taking the funds from your account. This kind of scam only works on people whose greed takes over their common sense.

@ scamsniffer63 There is no "keep the difference" in this kind of scam; therefore no 'greed' as you put it.

The victim will be asked to send the difference to the Scammer's non-existent shipping company before the victim's own bank or cashing agent realised that the cheque or money order was bad and pursued THE VICTIM for the return of the FULL AMOUNT, possibly pressing charges against HIM for attempted fraud and money laundering.

So Glad I looked this person's e-mail up because they e-mailed me with interest in something I was selling on Craigslist. Good looking out! Be warned this scammer is still scamming with the same e-mail!
