Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

You guys must be smarter than me...I just parted with £12,500 ....and realised only too late what I'd done.

The payment went out of my Barclays account to a UK Barclays Account...in the name of B Kolar..all run through a very convincing Armor Payments process including an active chat line..

The ad was for a Toyota Land Cruiser and but cheap but not ridiculously so...the 'lady' on the other end was Justine Anne Mcnair - who I now see features in your posts.

And yes the whole transaction was with Armor Payments - who I did check out in advance - but clearly now know well enough were not real - well not the entity I dealt with. I even had some extensive exchanges with their payments chat line...with a lady called Natalie - who was very on the ball and credible.

I had HPI'd the car but not written to the DVLA ...it was clear..

'Justine' used good english and proper grammar and sent me 'her' driving licence...

I spoke with the CEO of Armor who kindly rang me - in his words this is a very sophisticated scam - for those of us with too little time to dig deep enough I am sure they have caught a few people...otherwise they would not be building such a sophisticated model..as some one said even the 'Gurkha' link worked - in my case the car was located at their barracks in Folkstone and 'Justine' was indeed a training officer based in Kabul...it all seemed to complex to be unreal...ha ha!

If I had dug deeper I guess I would have eventually picked up this website...shame

I have been in touch with Barclays (who I know very well) and with the police..

If in some way this post helps shut this scam down - that would be great...

Please post all the details you have on these scammers. The name and driving license are stolen no doubt and probably belong to another victim of a previous scam .

The rest of the story closely follows the scam where 'Justine' claims to be a Training Officer with the Royal Gurkha Regiment currently on deployment (correct technical use of the words...) in Kabul.

Hi *****,
Great, please let me know if you need help. It is a non smoker car.
Many thanks, Justine

Then of course silence...

Both the bank and the police know all the details - and since the frauds account is with Barclays I expect action...

Interestingly I have also spoken with the real Justine Ann Mcnair...via Linkedin...she sent a copy of her driving licence to a fraudulent holiday apartment scam...so it was not stolen..but she did not report it at the time..

Any chance of catching these people?

I'm sorry to hear that you got scammed by these criminals 3111rosemergy.

Can you mention where the ad was originally posted ? i concentrate on scanning Autotrader UK for scam ads but I am well aware that they infest all UK ad sites. Autotrader UK have stepped up a gear and they were removing them faster than I could report them last night.

I take it personally if they get one by me that hooks a victim.

It interesting to know this, but not entirely unexpected. Holiday villa and apartment scams are also very common and it's only to be expected that they cover them too, but obviously their operation must be large and well organised to be able to handle everything involved.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

I found a left hand drive car here : https://www.motorcarpages.co.uk/car_details/5236722 (am Dutch and live in Holland) and almost got fooled as well..
Very credible lady, Emma Davies (Royal Army Medic). She even sent me her passport...
But I felt it was strange that her "army email address" ended with .co.uk instead of .gov and that the car was at an Army compound, so could not be inspected first.

Armor Payment would give both seller and buyer guarantees. Yeah, sure!

This post confirmed my suspicion, but it was cleverly done!

The name and passport being used are stolen and probably belong to a victim of one of their previous scams .
Please post whatever contact details these scammers are using .
