Why would you pay for an eBay item outside of the eBay payment system? Unfortunately if you sent the money through Western Union, your money is gone and there is no recourse. You can file a report with your country's cyber crime organization, in Europe that would be https://www.europol.europa.eu/ec3old

Please post some of the emails between you and them, with your personal information removed. The emails asking you to send money through Western Union will be helpful in helping to warn others.

Filing a report isn't going to get you your money back, but filing a report is important.

In the future, never pay for an eBay item through any other means other than what is within eBay policies. There are numerous warnings all over eBay telling you not to pay any other way. Unfortunately, there's nothing more you can do about your $500 at this point. I'm sorry you lost your money.

But would the police be able to sue and toss the scammer in jail?
by AlanJones Sun May 15, 2016 3:25 pm
Realistically, the police aren't going to do anything. The woman may not even exist. Many scammers will have ways of picking up money with out ID and even if she does exist, she is most likely an innocent scam victim herself, who thinks she has a job collecting money for her employer (or is doing it for an Internet friend).

Reporting the crime will enable the authorities to get an idea of how big the problem is - if no one reports the crimes then as far as the authorities are concerned, the problem doesn't exist.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

The woman does not exist and you will probably not get your money back . Can you post a link to this ebay auction item so we can look at it . Also any email addresses . This wont get your money back, but it may warn other potential victims of this scam .

Also post the phone number he gave you so we can examine that .

methopo, your question has been answered and advice given, I'm not sure what else you want us to tell you.

Can you post some of the emails between you and the scammer with your personal information removed? This will help other victims that may be searching and could prevent more victims.
