Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Selling online requires either providing bank account details or Paypal email address in order for a payment to be made.

Both methods should only allow a deposit with no chance of money coming out which requires more than just knowing the account.

However, is there any know risks in providing these details to your seemingly genuine buyers ?

So short of not selling anything online. Are there suggestions to work around this ?

Can you expand any more on the risks and how these details can be used when there is a whole lot more required for accessing an account than just the account name and/or number.

PayPal is safe as long as you stay within the PayPal system and follow their terms and conditions. The scammers will often send spoofed emails that appear to be from PayPal but no money is ever put into your PayPal account.

If someone says that PayPal is holding the money until you confirm shipment then it is a scam. Always login into you PayPal account by entering the information manually and never click on a PayPal link in an email.

It is ALWAYS a scam
If the pet seller or shipper asks for money to be sent via Western Union, Money Gram, any brand of gift card. Walmart To Walmart , Zelle , PayPal friends and family option, or mentions Cameroon

To add with Mike Wilson stated you never mentioned how you were going to sell online.

Craigslist, Gumtree, Newfoundland Buy & Sell Website, Interior Buysell or any other online site your best bet is to sell face to face.

These sites are not made for listing items and shipping.

Keep in mind scammers are creative. Some will pay you with hacked Paypal accounts and Bank accounts.

There are two sites that come to mind that can offer you some security as long as you play by their rules.

Gumtree in my case. Even meeting face to face is being discouraged now as people are more frequently turning up for an arranged meeting and getting mugged !

It seems you can't win.

I actually had the same thought.

I'm just about ready to give up selling online. It used to work really well but I'm finding now despite lots of interest no one is willing to commit, no doubt the majority are now too scared to have the confidence to follow through.

It doesn't help that I live in a country area so I absolutely rely on selling remotely and posting. Its not a big enough pool of people locally alone to be effective.

Its a shame because I really hate garage sales and practically giving things away.

There are two well known Companies that offer people to sell online. You will have to play by their rules and keep all messages in their messaging system.

You can not offer to sell outside their protocols.

You will have to pay listing fees.

It not 100% guaranteed you will not lose your listed item. But you have a dispute process.
