Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi All,

I'm chatting with someone offering to sell an iPhone on craigslist here in the UK for much less than it probably ought to sell for. Right off, seems like a scam. They'll only post it - no local pickup. Another red flag. But, they say they'll send me the phone, and accept payment later... So, assuming they don't ask for some kind of pre-payment (we'll see), how could this actually be a scam? Maybe it's a stolen phone that will be disactivated later? Or perhaps it's a fake from China? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

It could be one of many things - maybe they'll "send" the phone and the courier will hid some difficulty such as fees etc. or as you say, the phone could be stolen and will get deactivated or be a fake.

One thing is for sure though, no one is going to sell an iPhone for less than the going rate - even if they're desparate for cash they would easily get the going rate locally without the hassle of shipping it to someone.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

yep, thanks. just got an email from one of these "cheap" iphones - they'll send it today, but want a £10 "commitment" gesture. :=)
