Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Is it a scam if an online merchant doesn't have a payment option available?

I ask because I went to a clothing website that works with Amazin that was having a promotion-buy one, get one free if you write an honest review. Anyway, I went through the process of checkout and it said I had to contact customer service because there were no payment options available. I did, and someone called me and said they only work through PayPal but she could take my order over the phone.. But why wouldn't they have PayPal their website? Why would I have to call someone to place an order? Does this indicate a scam?

The store turned up legitimate on all of my searches.
Thanks!

If it entails paying with some type of untraceable payment method such as western union or moneygram , it is a scam . Can you please post links to this " store " so that members here can look at it ?

This also could be some type of paypal phishing operation .

There's the store and the exact product I was looking at.
I didn't know if the fact that someone called me after I asked about the payment option on their website was a good sign. She mentioned PayPal by name.

I found the link to the product on Amazon but wanted to see if the shipping cost would be any lower if I got it directly from the seller. It was nearly $10...damn!

Well the site's registration doesn't scream scam to me. It was registered in 2012 and was renewed for another 2 years. There registration is privacy protected, but that's not uncommon for small-time businesses that are maybe work-at-home dropshippers or something. I did go through the checkout process and it did direct me to the legitimate Paypal checkout page where you can pay with a credit card or log-in (I didn't log-in).

There's a lot of eCommerce shopping carts that use the Paypal website itself for the payment processing so it's not out of character for small-timers to do that.

If you're not comfortable, though, if you google the first sentence of the cami top's description that you were looking at, you will see that exact cami available at tons of different sites, including big brand stores.

Hmm, that's odd. I went in and tried to checkout with other items and got the same "no payment options available" message. I wonder why that is. I did this from my Mac laptop and iPod-same result. I'm in Georgia...I know of some lingerie- or sex-related stores that don't sell in certain states, but I don't see how that would be the case here. Oh, well.
