Due to my location and since view is not an option I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer Protection Program. Here is how the process works:

- you give me your full name and shipping address
- I start the transaction with the eBay,
- they send further payment instructions,
- you have to pay for the item to eBay to secure the funds,
- they confirm me that they received the funds,
- I deliver the tractor,
- you receive the tractor,
- they send me the money.

Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received the tractor in good order.

A very similar e-bay offer appeared for a VW campervan this weekend -
The listing appeared as a classified add £6000, I emailed the seller asking for details - they came back and said they wanted a quick sale and would accept £4,500, (the e-bay advert was then pulled).
They said it was in Dundee so they would arrange delivery though "Buyer protection" ....

- I asked for additional photo's - they were unable to supply, I said I had a friend near Dundee and asked if he could view it on my behalf and complete the transaction with cash if everything was in order (and save the transportation costs), apparently "viewing was not possible due to location", I said I couldn't find any reference to Buyer protection covering vehicles on e-bay and so the conversation has gone on ....

In short Vendor "Sarah" e-mail [email protected] and [email protected] initial web text to my mobile was from "sarahsale42"

"Sarah" said it was a private sale yet was listed as "Classified" neither classified or vehicles sales are covered by EBay buyer protection, she couldn't send additional photos, she would not entertain viewing and/or collection and would not provide a telephone number to call and discuss - Increasingly suspicious - then my brother in law found this site ..... Need I say more?

Hi I've just seen this thread - I'm hoping it's not too late. No money or bank details have been passed on but name address and phone number. I feel pretty stupid but am hopeful that I've not given anything too significant away. I would appreciate some (hopefully reassuring) advice.

Wow this is a big scam I see. I am aware this is the same scam as the "john Neale" scam - exactly the same stuff. this time it was a £3000 citroen hymer motorhome. the email address the scammer used is [email protected] and a text was sent from johnmr2012.
he hacked into someone's rarely used ebay account to start it off!!!
gave an address of 19 Grange Road, Dundee, Angus, DD5 4LU and did the whole "buyer protection" story.
He also used photobucket to send pics of the motorhome.
People need to report this guy to the police and ebay!

I had the same email exchange this evening.

There was a VW T5 on ebay for £5k. I got in touch thinking it must be a typo or no engine or something

In fact they explained they were going to Afghanistan and you know the rest.

These people are still very much ACTIVE!! VW T5 on Autotrader 01/05/12 & I belive it was on Ebay the previous week! - Email sent to enquire as it's too good to be true!

Very good email response from them in my opion (my 1st thought)......the written english isn't great but if your really looking for a van/car you can become blinded by a BARGIN (typical English human being )

I can see why people have been taken in by this but some one must beable to stop them! I feel so sorry for anyone that has handed over the hard earned money!

I was the fool who did get caught by this scam, E bay will not even reply, reported to the police and action fraud last wednesday, Action Fraud lost the file and Police still have not responded,even though they gave me a case number. I can only assume this is not as important as speeding or parking on double yellow lines. I take it there is nothing I can do just write off the £3300 and try to force Ebay to take better precautions. I have contacted Crimewatch so perhaps something might happen. Any further advise would be much appreciated

I'm sorry you lost money to these scammers.

Unfortunately, eBay is very limited as to what they can do. If the ad was placed using a legitimate account (often scammers use account information phished from real users), and withdrawn quickly, there would have been no major flag to alert them of scam. Everything else was done completely outside of eBay--they were never involved in any transaction, and assuming the scammer moved to email instead of eBay messages, they would have absolutely no access to the correspondence between the scammer and you. They do post the terms of eBay buyer protection on their website, and they have many warnings about taking transactions outside of eBay, using wire transfer, etc. so you will probably find that as far as they are concerned, they feel they have taken the appropriate precautions.

You are right in that the local police likely would pursue a speeding ticket before they will pursue your case. But it's not because they consider fraud unimportant--it's because the criminals are far out of their jurisdiction (most likely not even in the same country), so they have no real power to pursue the criminals.

Unfortunately, that's why sites like ours exist. The complications of internet scams make it very difficult to get justice, and the internet, while a wonderful tool, makes it very easy for these scammers to operate--so we work to get the information out there so that people can protect themselves from scammers.

First I have to let you know that I've earlier ended my ebay auction because some "serious buyers" that wanted to buy my motorhome, but in the end they did not have the money to pay for it... So the motorhome is still for sale.
I recently got separated from my wife. I also own a holiday house in Spain, Cadiz and I was forced to have moved here, the van is also here with me, I took it with me because we had to many things to carry.
The camper was gently used by me and my ex. wife only and it is in perfect conditions, is still registered in United Kingdom as you can see plate numbers from the photos !
Excellent condition, the bodywork is immaculate, no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent. I'm the registered keeper after the divorce and there is no outstanding finance on the motorhome, also the motorhome comes with a full service history.
Pick-up is available also. Shipping from Cadiz can be arranged at a very best value (maximum 700 pounds and half it will be covered by me), so the price for my motorhome is 5,400 + 350(half of the delivery)= 5,750.00 !
I want this transaction to be as smooth as possible so I will only close the sale trough eBay for our own protection.
Anyway if you are really interested in this motorhome and you need more photos or details, please reply because I have a lot of interested customers!

I hope this may help prevent someone from making an expensive mistake as it is unfortunate the police and ebay seem unable to stop this.

If it helps any the ip address they used traced back to San jose california but I am not to sure how this works as when they tried with me last year they were in scotland ,Leeds and finally Spain although I did miss a trick by not using the bank details they gave to follow up . A mistake I wont make again.

They get better and better with time, yes always use the site portal for communication, once a buyer/seller/person asks me to communicate outside the site, it is a clear sign something is in deed wrong, I have met few who were legitimate but it's up to you to accept his reason for working outside the site.

on all fraudulent items you will see that the scammer in one way or another is asking for the buyers personal email address "No time wasters again please !! Please provide your email address for more pictures."

or in other cases the the feedback of the scammer is 0 (zero) and if you click on to view his feedback you will notice that the account was created a 5 days ago

If there is anybody here that can call to the scammers bank to announce the bank that there is a fraud going on that account

i did not reply as i didnt want to entertain.I have a question for ebay and autotrader,why is it that i shop around online and find it easy to pick these scammers out ,why is it that ebay and autotrader do not work with the police to catch these fraudsters and allow them to commit acts of fraud on unsuspecting honest hard working folk,these frauds are massive and have an effect on the people who get cheated out of thousands.there are quite a few scammers active right now and something needs to be done to stop them,how can we move things forward to take action against them,from what i can tell there is just not enough being done to stop these frauds by the police and ebay,autotrader,maybe we should contact the managing directors of these companys and appeal to them to take action or contact the ombudsman if they are not prepared to do anything about it ! Anyone got any thoughts on this,just to be clear,i am not afraid to speak out about these criminals and action needs to be took now!
