Hi Sarza

Welcome to Scamwarners,

i am glad you found out about this scam before losing any money, well done.

Please do not reply to any more emails from this person, completely ignore him and he will go away.

It is worth noting in the first message from the scammer that he suggests he lives in Sydney yet the post code given is not a NSW post code.

If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask

Oh, good luck with selling your car to a legitimate buyer

Hi lucasgarza and welcome to ScamWarners.

Thank you so much for posting these emails you have received, they will be useful for other people to find here, and may save people from becoming a victim of this scammer.

Thank you for posting the header information too.

That is a proxy server, which hides the true location of the scammer. Some internet cafés use proxy servers (there are several in Lagos, Nigeria which do so), and sometimes a person deliberately uses one to mask their true location.

I'm glad you recognised it as a scam.

Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buying it now for birthday gift for brother in-law and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise for brother in-law so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for it and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick it up after i have made the payments...

Thanks
---

Yeah I received the same email a few months ago when I first put my car up for sale and didn't reply because it seemed dodgey. This is the address he used this time.

Hey Guys
Im SO glad theres sites like yours that help with this kind of stuff. Ive never used paypal before and so had no idea what i shouldve been looking for.
Ive had word-for-word exactly the same scam on my car sale ad over the last few days from a guy calling himself Mark Lewis under [email protected] email address.
I was tentative and suspicious but it was really confirmed by that first official-looking paypal email (ive had several scince) and it was only in googling the shipping company that i came accross the scam reports. the details i recieved were :Transport Company: UAB"Kuršiu Linija"

Agent's Info:
Name: Wesley Reagan
Address: Flat 18,Riverhope Mansion
Harlinger Street,se185ss
Country: United Kingdom

My next question for you guys though is how do i get rid of him safely? ive scrolled through and i dont think ive given anything away but i really dont feel very same with my email account, address and cell phone numbers available now, even if they are overseas. Reccommended course of action?
Cheers

Hi Steph, welcome to Scamwarners.

Well done on spotting this as a scam :)

The best thing to do now is to simply ignore eany further attempts to contact you and he will move on.

Be on the lookout for other scam emails that may (or may not) also include some of your own information to look more authentic.

If you really wanted to you could abandon your email address, change your phone number and move house but in most cases non of the above is necessary so long as you stay vigilant and suspicious.

If you have any doubts about any emails you receive do some searching and of course feel free to ask here

A very confused scammer

His ship is on a sea. He got that bit right but if he's got a secretary then his job isn't as a sailor, more likely a Rear Admiral. This is one extremely witless scammer.

It's a little unlikely that a sailor would wait until he's at sea before he decides to buy a car. It's like the flat owners who put their flats up for let, then immediately go abroad.

When you've taken a scammer this close to payday and then you jangle him about, it's possible he'll retaliate by mail-bombing you or making silly threats about the FBI or Interpol, which is why baiters only ever play with scammers using fake details. Playing with a scammer who has your real life details puts you at a disadvantage, so it's best not to do it.

Aside from publicising their activities and the mailboxes they use it's hard to do more, as getting their mail addies shut down only leads them to set up new ones we know nothing about. By making details public it's at least possible for potential victims to find their way here through Google and drop the scammer, and he'll never know why. Here the purpose is to stop scammers getting victims' money.

Personally I bait them too, but that's handled at 419eater and it's where the victim becomes the hunter.
