Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Funny he asks the price when it is in the subject line of his email.

Yep, you have a very lazy scammer there. He is sending this reply out in bulk in response to dozens of craigslist ads, and he can't be bothered to even customize the email for the ad he is answering.

Note how he also never says WHAT he is buying in his email, but instead refers to it as "the item".

I really want this item

That is because he is not limiting himself to vehicles. He is using the same script for all different kinds of merchandise. Ultimately he doesn't care whether you are selling a car or your great grandma's wedding dress, because he doesn't intend to get the merchandise, only the money he will have you send to the "shipping agent" (really himself of course) if you fall for his fake paypal email.

Hi guys, I nearly fell for this one im ashamed to say - it seemed so genuine, but a little bit too good to be true. I posted a bike up on GumTree and Facebook, and got this:

From a slightly different email [email protected]

Hi,Do you still have it for sale? i will like to make an offer of the
exactly amount you want to sell it,payment will be made through paypal
and i will arrange for the pick up as well get back to me with the
asking price.Cheers,Jordan.

Which seems the usual "chat up", with the crap spelling.

Then after replying he sends me this :

Thanks for the mail, i am buying this for my son as his birthday gift because i would not be around to celebrate with him i am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want this item to be a surprise gift for my son so i wont let him know anything about the item until it gets delivered to him,i am sure he will be more than happy with the item.I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my PayPal account,as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your PayPal email address so i can make the payment as soon as possible for the item and pls if you don't have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up, go on www.paypal.com and get it set up ,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through.I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up immediately you have receive the payment in full.

This time he is a Petroleum Engineer - this Jordan Guy is talented with multiple proffessions

Then he continues:

I have just made the payments now and i expect paypal to have emailed you by now,i sent £5,400.00 in all, To (my email) paypal said they would be holding the funds and it will not be credited into your account because of the excess payments of £800 i added meant for pick up and delivery, they said they have emailed you to this effect, you will need to send the £800 to my pick up agent Headquarters via western union money transfer,so that paypal can credit the £5,400.00 into your account as soon as you have emailed the western union details to them, i added extra £100 to cover the western union charges which shouldn't be more that £70-80 but just to be sure i added £100, Here is the pick up agent info needed to get the money sent through western union money transfer:

MACHOVA LADA,
145 Cannon Street,
London,
EC4N 5BQ.
United Kingdom

I will need the details of the transfer once you have sent fund . . .
1.The MTCN number that is the 10 digits number on the Western Union receipt
2.Sender's name and address used in sending the money
3.Actual amount sent.

From
Jordan.

I then left it for a day and wake up and get this

I just wanted to let you know I am totally disappointed with your attitude.it is some days now i have made your payment. I want you to confirm that you've indeed received the payment confirmation. I wonder why you have decided to stop writing me ever since you have gotten the payment confirmation.I explained earlier to you about the problem i had with the pick up agent. I hope you do not intend to STEAL from me by keeping mute.I need a detailed confirmation of the transfer of the funds you have sent to my agent at once.
Here is the agent information to send the money to via Western Union below:
MACHOVA LADA,
145 Cannon Street,
London,
EC4N 5BQ.

I will need the details of the transfer once you have sent fund . . .

Hello and welcome to scamwarners.com "05026652"
I have no doubt that your input will be of use to anyone searching for the Scammer's e-dress.

One thing that is an early indication of a possible scam is when the 'buyer' starts his mail by asking "Is it/the item still for sale?"

Listing Site Scammers are writing to hundreds of people at the same time, and by using a 'cut and paste' question that doesn't actually refer to what is actually being bought or sold saves them valuable scamming time.

He's still at it on AutoTrader. Talk about lazy, the exact same message that you guys got... Dude's a idiot, doesn't seem to know about Google.

doesn't seem to know about Google

And of course we don't want to tell him...The longer he keeps using the same names, addresses, and scripts, the easier it is for future intended victims to be warned.

just posted an ad to sell my car on buysell.ca. I got 2 replies the first day from 2 different email addresses < "Andrew Smith" [email protected] and "Anna Roland" [email protected] >. They both asked "if the item was still for sale". I replied yes to both, and then they both sent me THE EXACT SAME SCRIPT. lol. as follows:

Thanks for the mail, i am buying this for my son as his birthday gift because i would not be around to celebrate with him i am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. NEVER send money to someone who's supposed to be sending you money! Same scam with different words as the US soldier with recovered money from Iraq who needs you to send him money for legal fees so he can split 6 million US$ with you. I feel so bad for the victims......

Hope this helps!

Hey thanks for posting this warning we are trying to sell our trailer and we received an email from this guy but now he is using the name of Andrew Smith same email [email protected] and the email was the exact same as what he has sent to everyone else. Thanks for the heads up!!
by Eddie'smom Mon Nov 01, 2010 3:12 pm
This person now has a new name Anna Roland @ [email protected]. I've read all the e-mails that others have been sent and they are exactly the same as the ones sent to me word for word. So if you get an e-mail from this person to buy something from you then it is fake.
by Eddie'smom Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:45 pm
I have a funny feeling that this guy is a scammer. Supposedly he has sent me out payment for something he is buying from me by Certified Money Order or Bank Draft. Once he sends me the address of the person who will be picking up the product I will google it and I am pretty sure it will bring me to your sight just like the last person who tried to scam me, they didn't get me and he won't either.
by Eddie'smom Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:43 pm
This guy is definitely a scammer, I could tell by just reading his e-mails one of which follows

"Hello ,

Thank you so much for the update so far...As soon as you received the payment this Today...Don't Bother yourself about the pick-up...I have a local pick-up agent that will come for the pick-up and i have already prepare how you will contact them to come for the pick-up in the letter that is coming with the payment...Immediately you received the payment kindly follow the instruction inside the letter it will en light you the more so that you can complete this transaction In Good Faith...I want you to have Patience and Believed me that the payment will surely arrived any moment from now...I await to Read from you In time.

Have a Great Day.

I received this yesterday fro Jeffery Cole
I was just about to made the payment, when i had this little problem with the picking up,I got an email from my pick up agent...He said he won't be coming to pick up the car unless i pay him the agent commission fee first,In order to be able to schedule a pick up time, and my pick up agent head quarters is in the United arab emirate and all commission payments made for pick up, from anywhere in the world is sent to their head quarters in the UAE and the only form of payments they accept is western union money transfer and i tried to pay online but i will need a credit card which i didn't bring aboard the ship, and there is no wal mart or any western union agent on sea! so i have to ask you to help me with the pick up fees, which i will include the £980 they charged to pick it up and take it to my home(1st class treatment), to the payments i will make through PayPal,after i have made the payments,i will need you to help me send the £980 to my pick up agent through western union money transfer, the western union money transfer can be made at a wal mart near to you, there is always a western union agent at most wal mart or online at www.westernunion.com.I will be making the payments shortly and will email you as soon as it has been done.

Thanks to scammers warners.com I was made aware of this guy and told him that i was not interested in making any transactions other than the one for the car. He didnt reply back.

Today though I received an email from a Kate Brown (email [email protected])
asking me if i accept paypal payments and is 'it' in good condition?
I replied Where in the UK are you from? We do take paypal. Its in great condition for its age.

the reply back was:
Thanks for getting back to me, i'm located at(1406 Daffodil Ln,Lewisville,Texas)actually i will like to know the price you can give this to me? the payment will made via PayPal and pick up follow as i'll arrange with a shipping company for the pick up you dont have to be worried.ok

The price is in the description of the email and this person knows that the car is in good condition, we added photos and a description in the add. As soon as i saw shipping company and they lived in another country, it was a copycat sign of the email i had received the previous day.

I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself but reply, my reply was:
You are a scam, no one from another country would ship a car like mine over, You have not seen the car, nor been able to take it for a test drive. The shipping would probably cost more than the car. For a start the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car to be able to drive over there.
Let me guess, you would be sending me an email next saying you were just about to send the payment when there was a problem with the pick up agent who requires a certain payment via western union which you will pay us back for. Then sending me a fake email that looks like its from PayPal stating that the money has gone into the account and asking us why we haven't paid the pick up agent.....am i right.
Please do not waste my time.

heheh anyway so just a heads up to people to look out for the name Kate Brown, it is most certainly, jordan Evans aka Jeffery Cole

I have had (Jeffery Cole) Emailing me today and i very nearly fell for it until i googled his email adress and seen all this. Email address was [email protected].

First email saying: Do you still have the listed add for sale. Thanks.
with the subject of the message saying the car im selling.

I just emailed back saying yes and let me know if you need any information.

Next email said: Hi thanks for mailing back, i am okay with the price and will be willing to proceed with the payment as soon as possible. However, as i am a nurse and currently working with BHP Billiton Oil and Gas company(www.bhp.com), i am buying this for my Nephew as a surprise gift and I hope you will be able to assist me make this sales go through.Due to my current location, i can only pay through paypal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online (i don't have internet banking with it), but i have it attached to my paypal account, and this is why i insisted on using paypal to pay, all i will need is your paypal email address to make the payments and if you dont have an account with paypal already, you can easily sign-up for one by visiting www.paypal.co.uk I will be expecting your email.I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payments has been sorted.

I nearly fell for this but my partner was worried it was dodgy so thats when i seen all this on here, so thanks as this was a big help.
by Bubbles Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:42 pm
We are glad that you found us Samioreilly , your partner was correct. If you know how, would you post up the Headers from an email. That is helpful because it can tell us where the scammer is from.
