Hi M,

I have received your bank details..But i need a kind favor from you and i will be happy if you can help me. I was just about to transfer the funds when i received an email from my shipping company responsible for the pick up and delivery of my luggage, my shipping agent says i will need to pay for the pre-shipping before they can come for the pick up, they charge me $950.00 for pick up and delivery and the payment for pick up must be made to their corporate international headquarters office in Italy. They concluded that the payment must be made via Western Union money transfer. I will add $950.00 to the payment that i will be transferring into your account and you will kindly help me to send the added $950 to my shipping agent's accountant in Italy. I will send the funds through PayPal and email you to let you know when i am done with the transfer. The money transfer to the shipping agent can be done by visiting any post office near you. I have also included $100.00 for the Western Union money transfer charges. I would have done it myself but i can't for some circumstances regarding my work schedule, i will appreciate your kindness regarding this. You will get a payment notification from PayPal immediately i transfer the funds. I have also notified paypal about this too. Please do get back to me if i should transfer the funds.

Hi all.
First time poster, just wanted to contribute.

Posted an ad on gumtree this week. Received a text message reply asking me to email

[email protected]

I responded, then received back an email that was unrelated to the item and very poorly written. Definitely screamed scam, so I googled the above email address and arrived at this forum.

The emailer described themselves as being out of the country, wanting the item, directing me to paypal, and they would organise a courier.

I will cease contact and block this email address.

Hope that by writing this post it will draw more attention to stopping scammers.

I wish my son had seen this earlier but he justed wanted to sell his stuff.

After reading some of the emails I said to my son, it doesnt sound legit. Who the hell would want massive dj speakers sent from Australia to China? I told my son I am cancelling the paypal invoice and asking for a reversal if needed. So the REV DAN OBRIEN informs us he has sent the $1300 plus another $550 to pay for shipping.

my son then tells me, he has given him our home address- idiot. Well, hello the money never arrives into paypal account.

I then sent him this - I am not selling them anymore and if the payment appears in my paypal account I will be reversing the payment. The payment is usually instant and it does not appear yet. It doesn't sound right to me. I will be reversing as soon as it appears in my account as this is advice given to me from paypal. I am not selling and you will be getting a refund as soon as it appears. never heard anymore from him.
SO BEWARE OF THE REV DAN OBRIEN lurking on GUMTREE.

I want to say you can relax on the scammer having your home address. Nothing will happen. The scammer needed that information to make his scam sound real.

Your sons Paypal account will never be credited the monies. The scammer will only send fake Paypal emails stating that a payment was made. The emails are not from the real Paypal. The only way to be sure money was deposited is to log into Paypal with out using any links provided and check the balance. You could also call Paypal but you would need to log in again to get the information to call Paypal.

Next, you can expect the scammer to send threatening emails saying he has notified the FBI, Law Enforcement or his Lawyer. He is still trying to steal your son's money. He has no interest in the Speakers. The shipper, agent or mover is the scammer himself.

Please do not respond to any emails he sends and he will go away. He is programmed to respond to all emails.

Also be aware scammers will use this same scam with fake cheques and money orders. They will look real and your bank will cash them. Days or weeks later you will be informed of the fake. Your son will have to repay the bank, possibly have his bank account closed. The bank may even report him to Law Enforcement for fraud.
