Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi all,
I have been in contact with a lady claiming to be a training officer with the Royal Gurkha rifles based in Kabul Afghanistan.
All seemed fairly ok but I did a reg check on euro car parts and the car reg isn't recognised!
Her advert is on trovit for a 997 porsche911 turbo priced at £24,500 - cheap for a turbo but not ridiculously so. She has, this evening, sent me details on how she will sell the car - AFTER AN INSPECTION via Armor payments.
So.... Seems to be above board until I started to do some searching and came across this site and other Porsche adverts with strikingly similar wording and layout to the advert I have been dealing with. She has also sent a copy of her driving licence.
So...........I guess although she has offered for me to see the car before agreeing to release any money I should still be very cautious and walk away from purchasing my dream car for the moment at least? She did say that she could get the car delivered to me, there lies a disturbing offer I guess!
I can post her email if required.

Hello, please post the email. This sounds like the typical online escrow scam where they will want you to pay to an escrow company. What happens they spoof an email to make it appear that the email comes from a legitimate company when in reality it is a trick to steal money from you.

If you can't inspect the vehicle your self in person before handing over money it is a scam.

It is ALWAYS a scam
If the pet seller or shipper asks for money to be sent via Western Union, Money Gram, any brand of gift card. Walmart To Walmart , Zelle , PayPal friends and family option, or mentions Cameroon

I will cover the Armor Payments taxes,so your payment will be protected. The payment, for my car, will be transferred to Armor Payments. I will be paid after your inspection of my car, if you'll agree to purchase it.
Armor Payment will provide a 5 days inspection period. If you find any issues with my car, you will have the right to reject it and the payment will be refunded in full, in maximum 48 hours. In this case, I will pay the return shipping fee. Your payment is 100% covered with Armor Payments.
If you agree with the Armor Payments terms please reply to me with your full name, address and your phone number,so I can start our transaction. I've attached you a copy of my driver licence, so you can have my full details. Sorry for the long e-mails.
Regards, Justine

So where does Birmingham come into play Justine?
Also when trying to price spares as a rough idea of cost, when I enter the cars registration it comes up as not showing?
Now I'm not saying that this portrays anything untoward, but I don't understand why this is?
Can you shed any light on my concerns Justine please?
Thanks and have a good weekend if I don't hear from ou beforehand.

Hi and sorry for the delay,
Here is my ad: http://cars.trovit.co.uk/listing/2007-p ... b0879a960a I am a Training Officer for the The Royal Gurkha Rifles, currently deployed in Kabul, Afghanistan. The advert was placed locally, but I've moved my car to our base in Folkestone, Kent CT20 3HJ, for safety reasons. I'm sorry, but I don't have Network Coverage on my iPhone in this area. If it’s OK with you, I’d love to arrange a test drive. I’ll look forward to hearing back.

I thought you’d like to know that in addition to the condition of the car being exceptional, it also comes with full service history. No accidents, HPI clear, no outstanding finance. The car was advertised at a higher price before, but I've reduced it for a fast sale. I can complete the sale in the next days! I’ll look forward to hearing back.

Always follow these rules when dealing with an escrow service:

Only deal with an escrow service listed on the FCA online register as an Authorised Payment Institution.

Escrow services listed on the FCA register as Small Payment Institutions do not offer the same level of protection and security as FCA Authorised Payment Institutions.

If the name of a website is not listed exactly on the FCA online register, then do not use it – it is almost certainly a scam and fraud. Even one letter difference means a fraudulent escrow website.

Search results for "Armor Payments"

There are no results on the Register for "Armor Payments"

I've never yet seen the genuine use of an escrow company to handle the sale of a car from an ad site. In every case I have seen it has been used by a scammer as a means to avoid having to show the car he doesn't own to a buyer.

It is also true to say the if ever an escrow company is used, the buyer should appoint it, not the seller.

'Armor Payments' is a genuine company operating in the USA that the scammer is impersonating.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

Post 295061 needs victim name and email edited out . That email was from the same scammer with details changed .

The driving license and name they are now using are stolen no doubt . You should follow instructions posted earlier in the thread and post and Fake Mark them .
