Hi . recently i have advertised my motorbike on gum tree .
i was sent a text within 6 hours saying that Susan lowreell was interested in buying my motorbike.
she asked for my paypal account i said i did not have one but they persisted on it.
they also said the bike was getting sent to Darwin and they were using a China mob. this seemed a little strange . i had told my mum and friends. they said i should sus it out. so i Google the address and BAM it come up with its a scam address they use

These were used pretending to be a shipment company, pay pal and a buyer off gum tree.. Asking to send money through wester union same storey as the rest of yours. Silly me fell for it, but thankfully got to western union on time to cancel the money.

I received an email almost identical to another user today who gave me his name as Ray but used Desmond to the other user.
Basically I received a text this morning from an international number (+46 70-179 179) saying "I'm interested in your gumtree ad whats the present condition and your best price? Kindly respond to my email [email protected]"

I emailed back and then received this reply

I am interested in buying your item. I wish i could come for viewing and inspection due to that i am presently out of the country at the moment and i want it picked up prior my arrival back to australia, though i will be back in couple of weeks. I would like to pay you using paypal due to my inability to make a bank deposit which is safer for me. Kindly send me a paypal payment invoice or create an account with paypal on www.paypal.com.au if you dont have one. Claims he is a Marine Chief Engineer on offshore duties and is extremely busy, starts with text message on your mobile and requests to return him a response on the status of Gumtree sale advert on his nominated email, shows keen willingness to pay more (via Paypal) than the advertised price on Gumtree, will ask your paypal account etc. and then will request you to transfer money to his transport company by Money Gram Transfer method as he himself can't do it being in the middle of the ocean. I've just put up a car for sale on Gumtree and I got a text response within minutes of the ad going live.

I thought I'd post the new email that these guys are using.

Anyway, the SMS text I received read as follows:

I have copied the text above exactly as it appears on my iPhone. They are obviously using an SMS mailer program.

Pro tip , always google email or any contact details when getting weird messages to see if there are any dodgy things going on.

I have not received any more emails. I did get a phone call from a foreigner to ask about the vehicle from a different mobile number I don't know if it is linked.

These people did not get my bank account details or any pay pal account thanks to others that have posted and just listening to my own Intuition of what a weird email and jumping online to search and found this page. Thank you.
