Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I was very nearly sucked in as well by "Richard Alldread" as follows:

As I've said in my previous email I am currently located in the Isle of Man in the military base do daily trainings for 2 weeks to get ready to be deployed on mission in Mali . I'm doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 3 days depending on your location and it's not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like Google Wallet because I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their Google Safe Pay Solutions (bank-to-bank wire transfer) for vehicles.

The money will be sent to Google Wallet, before you will receive the vehicle. So, you will deposit the payment directly into the Google Wallet agent's bank account in United Kingdom, either online or at most banks and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the vehicle in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the vehicle and you register it, into your name. You will have an inspection period of 10 days. In this time you can check, test and inspect the vehicle. If by any reason (the vehicle has any hidden damages or is not like I describe it) you can reject the deal. In this case Google Wallet will refund you totally and they will deliver the vehicle back.

Let me know your shipping details (your full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction case with Google Wallet and declare you as buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery.

Just got another, cant believe there are so many people out there doing this...

Daniel,

I bought this car in the UK and it is still registered there, so you do not have to pay import fees or any other taxes. Before shipping I will get the bill of sale notarized and I will send it along with the car.
In case you wish to check it the registration number is SK09ZGZ and the VIN number is WAUZZZ4L69D016373.
In case you wish to come down here i think i am able to wait for you 2 -3 days. I have many interested buyers and i can not wait too long.
In case you wish to use a third party i want to use the service provided by Google, Google Wallet.
It works like this :
You will send payment to Google and they will keep the funds until your receive the car and are satisfied with it ( you will have a 15 days test period). In this way both buyer and seller are covered 100%. As for me, I'll be secured knowing they are in possession of the money.
You will be given 15 days for inspections, starting from the day you receive the car (I will send it to your address, insured for full value).
If you decide to keep the car, then you will have to authorize Google to send me the funds, and the transaction is complete. If the car is not as described (perfect interior, exterior and mechanical condition), you can send the vehicle back via the same transport company and ask Google to return the funds to you.
If you want to read more about this service please visit http://wallet.google.co.uk/how-it-works.php#escrow?ltmpl=jQ5LWFkYjAtZjI0Y&service=sierra&passive=1200&continue .
If you decide to use this method you will have to sign up for an account at http://wallet.google.co.uk/signup.php?ltmpl=jQ5LWFkYjAtZjI0Y&service=sierra&passive=1200&continue and provide me with the e-mail address you used to create the account so i can start the transaction.

Hi Jarvinen,

I am very interested in your Q7, I have a few questions, firstly I noticed that there is another advert for the car today on auto trader for £7000 and that mileage stated is different, does this mean You have dropped the price of the car ? Secondly as Lieksa is quite a long drive from the UK, how would we go about shipping the car over here and what would the costs be.

Kind regards Daniel.

The car is still for sale, HPI clear, both interior and exterior in excellent condition, runs great, never been involved in any accidents.
I am from Finland, city of Lieksa. I had a 3 year contract in the UK as an engineer. Now that the contract is over i moved back to Finland. I took the car with me because i love it and i wanted to keep it.
But i realized that is very difficult to drive a right hand drive here and also to register it here is quite expensive. I also have a company car here so i decided to sell the Q7 back to the UK. I tried the local market here but i had no interest in it as it is RHD and due to the fees needed to register it.
The total price would be 8000 GBP.
Due to the fact that my work takes almost all of my time and i don`t spend to much time at home, i asked an international company to take care of the sale and act as a third party for this transaction (i ship the car to you, you send the funds to the third party and as soon as you receive the car, test and agree to keep it you authorize them to release the funds to me).
Or you can come here and take it. Lieksa (where i am) is at 340km from Jyväskylä airport.

Keep clear of Determinedpuppe and kayb200 on EBay.... he/she probs has other scamming names too.
He/she contacted me through [email protected] and [email protected] for a VW Touran 2008 which I thought was down the road from me in Frome....but ended up being in Scotland.

It all started to sound quite scammy the minute the ad. disappeared from EBay... so please don't engage with this person at-all. They'll likely ask for a deposit and then offer to drive the car/tractor/motorhome.. to you...

Just wanted to share to try to minimise scam impact.

Here's a tractor he/she had for sale!!
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... =firefox-a

The email read as follows:

Hello,

The vw touran is still for sale. Immaculate condition, no damages, nothing to worry about. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £3,750 delivered at my costs.

The deal will go strictly according to eBay Buyer Protection rules and policy. I am unable with phone so please use email as primary contact option. I dont use phone for internet deals.

Thank you

[email protected] is also working under many other names on eBay. We were also nearly caught in their scam so I have been keeping an eye out and reporting all their listings. Things to look out for:

- all vehicles are listed as Classified Ads
- all the seller IDs have 0 feedback
- the majority of the seller IDs were registered on 4 March 2013, although some also registered 18 May 2013
- most ask for an email and phone number to be emailed to them

I have managed to get over 20 listings removed through reporting them for listing violations, but new ones are appearing every day. If anyone does have spare time on their hands, it would be great if you could also report so that we can close this scammer down.

Welcome to Scamwarners melsbels and it's good work you're doing along with many others.

These people aren't just operating on Ebay, they use Craigslist, Gumtree and Autotrader and Friday Ads in the UK too. The more people who work against them the better and even, if they can't be stopped, their conversion rate can be severely impacted. Knowing how they operate they incur substantial costs in setting up their operation, so they have to achieve a significant level of success to make it worthwhile.

I've become quite good at spotting their Gumtree ads and they've had to be much less obvious in what they do, by making their offers much less outrageous and, in doing that, they hook less victims.

VW camper vans and Audis are favourite sale items but they've been known to sell anything from motorbikes to classic cars. The important thing is for buyers to be aware that there are scammers operating on these ad sites and that they should be cautious.

Meanwhile if you, and we, keep up our good work tracking these people, highlighting how they operate, they'll have much less success.

Beware, there are current fraudulent adverts on Autotrader using the contact email *.KROCODIL.CO.UK

I've found that these jump from dealer to dealer (some adverts in the dealer's group are correct). They always say "private sale, do not phone, email ..."

Autotrader are very slow to deal with this.

In general, do not send faster payments to anyone you do not know, particularly if the benefitting account is run by Barclays - they couldn't care less about receiving laundered money (I'm off to the small claims court shortly).

I/we are devising speedier and more efficient ways to pick up their scam ads.

If I post details in public it'll just encourage them to devise new tactics, so that isn't possible, but people should never ever considering a vehicle they don't intend to view. If the seller gives you excuses as to why you can't view it then it's very likely to be a scam.

If the level of scam ads to successful conversions can be pushed to below a certain level, the whole enterprise becomes uneconomic and actually costs more to run than is worthwhile.

If you pay away your money without ever seeing the vehicle. and it turns out to be a scam, you have no recourse against anyone and your money's gone for good and the police, the ad site and the bank won't help you get your money back. As the buyer, only you can protect your money.

Evelyn is still going...

using gumtree to sell a purple elgrand, using a victorian address to register, selling a car with NSW plates, wants to sell via eBay as they have buyer protection and she has 100% feedback or so she claims :laugh-s:

refuses to send new pictures other than what she has obviously stolen (see gum tree and photobucket), refuses to send a scan of the rego papers nor her license... VIN number does not match the plate....

Hello,
Its still for sale. Excellent condition with no damages or any faults. All necessary documents available. I am currently in Perth due to my work commitments, If this is going to be a quick sale I will let it go for $16,000 delivered at my costs. Are you familiar to eBay? I will list the Nissan Elgrand Series 3 on eBay Motors for the $16,000 buy it now price and I will send you a link to my auction, so you can buy it immediate.
As soon as you will confirm the payment to eBay, I will proceed delivery without any additional costs for you.
In case you are not familiar with them, please read their Buyer Protection and will see that they cover 100% the transaction done through them up to $50,000. You will receive the Nissan Elgrand Series 3 with all the documents. As you know eBay is the best company of online transactions. If indeed interested in it and have the funds, I will list it on eBay, as I have a 100% positive feedback with them.
Please let me know your decision.
Thank you

Evelyn

Welcome to Scamwarners shadowknyghtand that's a smart piece of work you've done.

This group of fraudsters have been very successful in the UK and it's invaluable to have a report that they've gone international. They're UK based but not of UK heritage, which is obvious from their writing. If you spoke to them on the phone it would be very obvious, though they could have Australian contacts and it would be useful to know if they do, but I doubt they'd sound like any Aussie you know.

I'd love to know if they offer you an ebay account, though the most valuable thing to know is what account they're using to receive funds.

It's most likely that they'll just mail you a made up page imitating an ebay auction page and the cheeks b :yikes: even made me use a different specific mail company as I presume it only formats correctly with certain ones.

Don't educate them about Australian vehicle registration and number plates as clearly that's caught them out and they'll be keen to learn how to get things right in future.

Hi Wish I had found this site two weeks ago .
Just been scammed for £4900 by ebay member kayb200 for motorhome
Seen add on autotrader emailed owner [email protected] me she would put it on ebay as private listing and send to me only .Came through as very authentic ebay page, checked all feed back etc all 100% thought all was safe as it was on ebay .clicked buy it now and followed on line
instructions .Came up with ebay buyer protection guarantee (no such thing i have since found out}
all very authentic.Wired money to account details provided.Recieved email confirming payment and given deliverey date . emailed them night before delivery THROUGH EBAY for delivery time and got reply THROUGH EBAY thought all was ok going through ebay( Ha Ha) No delivery.
Reported it to ebay they said they would freeze account and look into it kayb200 is still trading on ebay now so much for ebay customer care.
All emails from [email protected] are almost word for word as motorhome on ebay scam
i.e working in Scotland ,viewing not an option etc.
Why is this person still trading on ebay, why can they not be traced, Anybody got any answers?

Welcome to Scamwarners kevjenks13 and sorry to hear that you have become another victim of this criminal fraud.

You need to make sure that the bank account you paid money to gets shut down. Report it to Action Fraud and make sure you get a crime number and report it to the bank using recorded delivery mail reminding that it is a criminal offence for them not to report an account involved in money laundering and that anyone failing to do so risks a prison sentence.

You won't get your money back but, if you are outraged at what has happened you can take it up with your MP. With an election looming they will listen and there's a simple way to contact your MP online. You can only do this on the basis that this has become a widespread criminal fraud that is unacknowledged and unaddressed by UK police and banks, both of whom have an obligation to prosecute those involved in crime and money laundering.

Beyond that - look here - you gave me just enough info to snag it

http://www.privlsts.com/itm/vw%20camper/index2.php?W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efe448c6bQQitemZQQptZUSQ5fE559FF65111E424AS1E0E22FF=0

Where did you first see the listing ?

I'm trying to get my head round what this criminal organisation is doing (because someone ought to try) and I have done a lot of research but need to see how this operates from start to finish. Was it a listing on Gumtree or somewhere else ?

Champion work kevjenks13.

They've taken the fake page down already as I feel certain they didn't want us to see it.

Guess who has a copy of it saved to his pc.

I'll set up a copy for the forum - but don't rush me.

Many victims are so baffled that they don't really understand what's happened and don't give accurate information to follow up on. Knowing how the criminals operate and function makes it a lot easier to work out where their vulnerabilities are. We know some now.
