Welcome Ethnan01.

This is a definite scam.

I live in London with my very honest Family

Most honest people do not feel the need to claim that when hiring a nanny. Scammers, however, use phrases like that regularly. The language used for this email is very typical of Nanny Scams we see over and over again. Please do not respond to that email/ad and look at this topic for more information on this type of scam: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=3019

Let us know if you have any questions.

Have you sent a payment to a scammer with Western Union and now realize it's a scam? If the payment has not been picked up, you can cancel it immediately! 1-800-448-1492

Subject: Thanks for the note.....

Thanks for the note,

We are a nice happy Holmes Paul family in north east London UK looking for a good Au pair to look after Caspar 3 and Alexander 6.

We are looking for an honest hardworking Au pair who can come and start in the FIRST WEEK OF MARCH 2011. An Au pair who can use her initiative and is geniuenly interested in becoming a big sister to two young boys as well as becoming part of the family. We have had four previous Au pairs and we are in touch with them all still (contact details available). This is an ideal position for 6-12 months for someone with good English skills who would like to become fluent, All previous Au pairs had good English to start with but left for University with a high level of fluency in English.

Basically Au pair has to take children to childcare/school and collect in afternoon. Look after Caspar all day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Normal week is Monday to Friday 8 in morning until 6ish in the evening with pretty much free time from 09:30 until 15:00. Not expected to clean but must be prepared to empty dishwasher, dryer and help keep house tidy. Will need to prepare food for children 3 or 4 times a week so Au pair who knows how a kitchen works is important. Big room in nice house, gym membership, use of car if family is not using. £110 PW baby-sitting extra. Au pair must be over 21 years old...

We are looking for someone who wants to have a good experience, improve their language skills in a happy family environment and join in, not someone who wants an easy low paid job so the can hang out in London.

If you are interested in our family kindly contact us fast on [email protected]

Awaiting your fast responds

Hi there Iulia,

Yes, it definately is a scam. Apart from the typical writing style of an African scammer there is another major red flag that leaves no doubt at all; the travel agency. They claim that the travel agency will take care of the necessary documents such as visa for you (in return for a fee, of course). In reality there is nobody that can arrange those documents for you, you have to do it yourself. Any "family" or "company" claiming the other are scammers and cannot be trusted. Please stop all communication with them - just delete all future mails, don't even bother reading them. Thank you very much for posting the mails online, they may save other potential victims :)

I am quoting a post of a colleague with more expertise when it comes to au pair scams here:
If you are looking for an au pair job in the UK, please contact the British Embassy in your own country to check UK entry requirements. You can find the genuine British Embassy website by Google searching 'British Embassy' and the name of your country. Note that a genuine British Embassy email address will always end with @fco.gov.uk (and with no words or abbreviations after that).

Do not send money to any agency, embassy, lawyer, or other person introduced to you by a potential employer. If you wish to consult the UK Border Agency, do not use an email address or website address given to you by your potential employer, but go to the genuine website here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

If you require any guidance with travel arrangements, please contact a travel agency in your own town, which you can visit in person.

It's a scam.

The English also tells me, plus a few other things, but the truth is, if you see a phone number that starts with 44-70 or 44-070, you can know for certain it is a scam, because those phone numbers are used by scammers who are pretending to be in UK when they are not.

Hi iulia,

It is difficult to tell from that email whether or not it is a scam. Therefore, please take care that you know the correct rules for working in Ireland, and that you safeguard yourself from anyone tricking you by telling you that there is a different method of obtaining employment. Do not send money to any person or agency you are directed to by a potential employer, but always follow the genuine procedure.

Hello,

I hope you are doing pretty well... Am so excited to know that you already contacted and heard from the Travel Agency. Am so confident about the processing of your papers through this Travel Agency. They are so reliable and always respond to inquiries so fast.... I understand their charge to be 850 Pounds. I don't think this is a huge amount considering how long they will process your papers. You seem to have forgotten my promise of assisting you pay half of what ever amount the Agency would charge.

Am pleased to let you know that I already made arrangement in sending my part of the payment to the Agency which I suppose is 425 Pounds. So for now, I will advise that you send your information to the Travel Agency so they can have your details fixed on their schedule, then get back to me as soon as uou have that done so we can agree on when to send payment to them. Just be aware that I am capable of sending my part of the payment even tomorrow when I gets to the office.

I hope you understand that I wasted lots of time before I could fine you and I was impressed by the information I found about you on your profile so I am really set to make sure that I employ you. Aside this, my kids already developed love for you so you can imagine my reason of wanting to employ you. I sincerely hope we do not waste further time in meeting the Agency requirement so the processing of your papers could begin. I'll like to thank you for your efforts so far and I seriously pray and hope that everything work out fine as soon as possible. Take care!!!

Warmest regards,
Mr Daniel Bruce
