Hello,
It gives me great joy to know that you have an interest in my lovely house for rent,its still very much available for rent and ready for immediate occupancy. I wanted to sale off the house before i later decided to rent it out, you may find a realtor sign in front of the house that is the person i gave the house to beofre to help me look for buyers but am not in contact with them anymore since i have decided to rent it out now.I am sure you will be asking yourself why my rent is low, that's because i am not too keen about the amount in renting the house out but to whom i am renting the house out to. My intention is to rent my house to someone that is responsible and be ready to take great care of the house as if it were his or hers. I am very certain that you would love the comfy of the house.
I would like you to know that i am giving this house out for rent because i have been posted to West Africa as an Pediatrician (kid's doctor) and would spend couple of years here before i will be through with my assignment here. So my family and i have decided that we will be moving to our other house in Seattle, Washington when we get back to the states,i will like you to complete the tenant application form below and please be honest with these details to enable us choose the right tenant.

This was an email I recieved after responding to a rental in Boise on Craigslist. Notice how he tries to get you to trust him by saying he's a pediatrician (who has such poor grammar skills? yikes). Then tries to get you to not worry about the 'for sale' sign in the front of the house. Asks completely too few questions on the "application". Nothing about income, where I work, pet deposit, or anything. Truly this house it too good to be true. 2 bedroom for only $480 a month, WITH utilities? Get real. Sadly I fell for the first part and sent off my application. THIS is what I got in return that REALLY set me off.

As we have found your application very satisfactory and acceptable by my family. So we would want you to go through this email and get back to us on what you feel so we could proceed in renting the house to you.We would like to send the following documents and keys to you via FedEx to the address you sent to us and the tracking number will be sent to you so that you can possibly occupy our house, Please once again, we are giving you this on trust and do not disappoint us and i promise you that, you will love the house so we are with the below document and keys here with us.. You will need to make Payment for the first ($480) to enable shipment of the Keys and document to the address you have to provide to us, after which you could move in at your convenience. The rent starts counting when you move in, so you could go ahead with the payment straight away to make things faster….Here are the contents of the document that needs to be sent.after the deposit of ($480) i will have to send you the lease agreement form so that you can sign for prove and send back to me asap.
1) Entrance and the rooms Keys
2) Paper/Permanent house form
3) The house documentary file.
4) Full Description of the house
5) Payment Receipt.
Below here are the questions we want you to answer because we want to know some certain things that are not clear to us here okay.
1)Will you take good care of the house?
2)Where do you wants the keys and the paper work to be ship to?
3)Who will be receiving the keys and the paper?
4)How soon do you want the keys to be ship you?
5)How much can you pay to secure the house till your moving date?
6)Are you ready to pay for you to have the keys and the documents asap?
7)Are you ready to pay for the security deposit asap?
You will need to make Payment for the refundable security deposit to enable shipment of the Keys and document to the address you have to provide to us, If you come up with the refundable security deposit then i can ship the keys and document to the address you send to me in your previous mail but if you are not satisfy after doing the walk through then i will refund you the security deposit back so that you can send me back the keys and document.Hope to read from you as soon as possible.. The rent starts counting when you move in...

Notice how important it is that I send the money? How many times does he mention it? 5 or 6? PATHETIC. Like I'd put a deposit down on a house I haven't even seen or had a relative check out. What a LIAR. One of the most tell-tale signs though? The font and size of my name/the greeting is DIFFERENT in both the emails that the body of the email.
DO NOT fall for this! He has been texting me and even tried calling a few times. Yes the number was out of country : 1 234-708-350-8833
