Information on romance scams and scammers.

i have been in correspondence with a man who claims his name to be Robert Evans...met him on match .com...his user name on match is/was matchedperson. He is a class act scammer. The photos he posted were of a very cute 48 year old man...youthful looking, well built, 6'1...

at first, he sounded to be an intelligent guy...widow, two children, Gold 16 and John 14... who live with their granny in the UK since his wife, Maria's sudden death in a car accident. He was well spoken for the most part, but then there were slight variations in his email language. He likes to send poems. From the time of our initial correspondence on match he gave me his email address [email protected]... when i ask to meet with him, he informed he was working in africa, organic agricultural business in ethopia and should be home in a week or so. The next week, he sent an email stating his business was coming to a close in ethiopia and he was planning his trip back home...he asked which airport i lived by (first red flag which intuitively caught my attention, but i ignored)...i told him lax... the following day he sent me a flight itinerary with his name, a birthdate, seat assignments....departing ethiopia laying over in nigeria and bound for lax.... we were meant to meet that weekend after he rested up a bit. I noticed on the flight itinerary though that payment was pending....The next day...i received an email from him telling me he was in trouble, the hotel he was in would not accept his credit cards or bank cards...(another red flag that spoke louder than the first) he asked me to send him 2500.00. Which of course, i did not do, but continued to believe in him as a human being. I do not have any experience with these type of people...but my gut kept telling me something was not right. When i responded to him intelligently in the emails i replied with, suggesting he contact the american embassy, the consulate...his bank in the states or where ever, uk , italy.... both of which he claims he lived and moved from.. i guess he realized he had no bait here and didn't email me for a week... Then he emailed me telling things were getting better, but his business account had been hacked in to and money sent to him was deposited into the wrong account and the account owner left with the money... it bacame rather hilarious and pitiful...he then began calling me from a telephone number in Idaho. All of the other testimonials on this site regarding him are exactly the same information and type of emails i receied from him- word for word.

a friend of mine did a strong google search on his name and found him and his story to be a very well known scam- i reported him to match.com- it's about all i can do....but i did feel the need to share my experience with others.

Thank you for posting Sherri,

I'm sorry you were targeted by a scammer, though I am glad you didn't lose any money.

I have separated him into his own topic so that it is easier for other victims to find the relevant information. If you have any of the emails he sent you that were at all different from those posted, please feel free to post those here as well as the photos he is using.
